Centrifugal Fan Boxes – SilentBox
2.9
Protection against contact
- Silentboxes SB.. are not delivered with fan protection guards as standard. Depending on the installation
conditions, protection against contact may be necessary on the suction and/or discharge side. Corresponding
protection guards are available as accessories.
- Fans which are protected by their installation method (e.g. installation in ventilation ducts or closed assemblies) do
not require protection guards if the plant provides the necessary level of safety. Please note that the operator is
responsible for complying with the current standard and can be held liable for accidents as a consequence of missing
protection systems.
2.10 Motor protection
All Silentbox fans have thermal contacts (TC) fitted in the motor windings. These protect the motor against overloading.
Triggered thermal contacts indicate incorrect operating conditions, the cause of which must be remedied.
The unit types SB 125 to 250 are equipped with thermal contacts which are connected in series with the winding. In
case of thermal overloading, deactivate the motor. These types switch off automatically and switch on again after cooling.
With regard to unit types SB / SBD 315, the TC are fed to the terminal block in the terminal box and connected to a
motor protection device (see accessories).
NOTE!
Triggered thermal contacts indicate incorrect operating conditions, the cause of which must be addressed.
If the thermal contacts are triggered frequently (standstill), the fan must be inspected by a specialist according
to chapter 1.5.
2.11 Condensation
If the fan is used intermittently, especially in a humid and warm environment, or if variations in temperature occur,
condensation may build up in the motor and draining off must be ensured. In case of condensation in the ducting and
fan casing appropriate measures must be taken during installation (water sack, drainage line). Under no circumstances
must the motor come into contact with water.
