PEX Plumbing System
(Step 4 continued)
WARNING: It is critical to create an even, smooth expansion mark. Failure to do so may
create deep grooves and cause an improper connection which could result in a leak.
X
Note: The number of expansion cycles will vary with the size of the pipe and the ambient temperature.
Keeping the rings/sleeves warm (55˚F or higher) will help to speed the retraction time and ensure a
uniform expansion. Do not make any connections in temperatures below 5˚F.
5. Continue until the pipe and ring/sleeve are flush with the expanded head shoulder.
6. Remove the pipe when the head segments are contracted and release the trigger. Do not keep the tool in the expanded position
with the pipe in place as it may overexpand the pipe.
7. Wipe away any excess grease from the inside of the pipe.
8. Quickly slide the pipe over the fitting until it is completely flush with the shoulder of the fitting. Hold the fitting in place until
the pipe and ring/sleeve contracts around the fitting. If the fitting is too tight to slide into the pipe, then remove and expand one
additional time.
9. Verify that the connection is complete and secure. The pipe
should be resting firmly against the shoulder of the fitting. If
there is a gap over 1/16", cut off and replace.
