1. Description
The sound pipe used consists of a transparent Plexiglas tube held on a sheet-metal support
by two retaining clips.
A loudspeaker is fixed at one end of the tube. This loudspeaker is powered by a signal
generator (not supplied).
The other end of the tube is closed by a removable foam plug. This plug can be removed
and attached to the control unit using 2 Velcro strips thus allowing the tube to be used with
one side open.
Inside the pipe an electret-condenser microphone of 8 mm diameter, equipped with an
index, is fitted at the end of a movable metal rod along the axis of the sound pipe. The
displacement of the rod is ensured by the rotary selector on the control unit connected to
an adjustable rack system (a stop prevents the rod from coming out of the control unit).
A 500 mm graduated scale is printed on top of the rod to locate the position of the
microphone in the tube. The position can be read directly on the graduated rod at the left
end of the unit (see the photograph below).
On the unit, an adjusting screw helps adjust the vertical position of the metal rod at the
centre of the Plexiglas tube.
