1 Principle, description
This analogue model demonstrates the working of a seismograph and the
mechanical principle of the graph generated.
The basic principle is inertia of the inscribing block (weight) suspended over
the instrument frame on which movements simulating an earthquake are
imposed (shock waves). The movement is recorded (seismograph) on paper,
originating from a roll which is unwound manually and perpendicular to the
direction of movement of the base. The speed of movement of the paper
determines the time constant.
