4.0 GENERAL WARNINGS AND MODE OF EMPLOYMENT
In order not to damage either the battery or the battery charger, it is necessary to
observe the following operating instructions and warnings:
• After removing the machine from its box, make sure that it is complete in all of
its parts.
• Unwind the input cable in its entire length and extend it, so that it cannot be
trampled on or crushed.
• Lengthen the input cable with an extension if necessary, make sure that the
current capacity is the same as that of the original cable; do not use cables
having a smaller section.
• In case the socket and plug are not compatible, use only simple or multiple
adaptors complying with the safety regulations in force and having a proper
capacity.
• The connecting clamps, the charging clips and the upper surface of the battery
must always be clean; eventually clean well the clips of the battery with an iron
brush.
• Never reverse the polarity of the connections; if in doubt, remember that the
negative clamp (-) is directly connected to the body of the motor vehicle.
• The charging voltage of the battery charger must be equal to the nominal one
indicated on the battery; it coincides with the number of elements of the battery
mulltiplied by two (i.e. 6 elements = 12 V).
• During the operation set the battery charger in a stable position and make sure
that the openings for the passage of air are not obstructed.
• Remove the caps of the battery once the clamps have been cleaned, so that
dust or other particles do not fall into the battery elements, and leave them in
this way for the entire duration of the charge.
• Make sure that the electrolytic liquid covers the plates for at least 4-5 mm; if
necessary add distilled water of the type marketed for this purpose.
Warning: do not touch the liquid inside the battery; it is corrosive!
• It is advisable to always disconnect the cables connected to the positive pole of
the battery.
• Do not perform the simultaneous charging of several batteries.
• Avoid any attempt of re-charging batteries which cannot be re-charged.
• Keep the battery charger in a dry place.

5.0 DURATION OF THE CHARGING PROCESS

The duration of the charging process always depends on the situation of the
battery to be charged (almost charged, half-way or completely discharged) and on
its conditions.
To "rejuvenate" a battery normally in use, 2 to 4 hours are usually sufficient. For a
complete re-charge 8 to 10 hours may be necessary.
