General
Many of our plants come from regions of the world where
the circadian rhythm and light levels are different from our
latitudes. An effective light source improves the growing
environment and helps delicate plants survive over the
winter.
The Grow Light Quattro is developed to provide full-
spectrum light, giving a well-balanced mix of wavelengths
to suit most applications. It can be used for germinating
and cultivating plants, to provide additional light, to control
flowering and for overwintering.
Wavelength ranges
The grow light has two buttons for regulating light intensity
in the blue/white and red wavelength ranges. The blue/
white wavelengths can be used for cultivating plants in
slightly milder light conditions, or for overwintering in cool
ambient conditions. The mode with only red wavelengths
stimulates flowering. Using full-spectrum light (all the
lights on) gives plants and indoor trees a growth boost
and encourages flowering. This light mode encourages
optimal growth and is ideal for cultivating plants or growing
plants indoors in winter.
Setting of control unit
The control unit has a single button for setting the mode
(SELECT) and two buttons for dimming/brightness (RED/
BLUE). Each mode has an indicator (red LED) that shows
which mode is selected.
Selecting the mode
The SELECT button can be used to switch between
four modes: Other, Flowers, Herbs and Salad. Press the
SELECT button to change mode; a red indicator LED
shows the selected mode. Press repeatedly to select the
mode you want. See the Lighting table for the lighting time
in each mode. In Other mode, the lighting is always on. This
mode is suitable if an external timer is used. The timer is
zeroed each time you press the SELECT button. The timer
starts counting down as shown in the table.
Dimming
The brightness can be switched between four levels,
and is adjusted individually for each of the red and blue
wavelength ranges. Each press of the button reduces the
brightness. When the LEDs turn off, the cycle starts again;
after the LEDs have turned off a single press turns them
back on again at maximum brightness. Your setting is
saved automatically two seconds after the last button press.

Germination
Grow your seedlings in seed compost. Allow the
seeds to germinate without lighting. The germination
time is usually 2 to 3 days, but can vary depending on
the type of seed. Once the seed has germinated, you
can switch on the blue/white light. The wavelengths
of this light are ideal for root growth and early plant
development. This light is also milder, which allows
seedlings to establish without drying out.
After the seedlings have grown at least four leaves,
switch on both wavelength ranges (red and blue/white).
This doubles the brightness and accelerates plant growth.
Continue checking regularly that the plants have enough
water. Plants normally consume more water under
LED lighting than other lighting, due to more efficient
photosynthesis.
When the plants are about two months old, they should be
transplanted to a greenhouse or garden plot.
Year-round growing
The Grow Light Quattro is ideal for growing vegetables or
lighting plants all year round. All the wavelengths should
be activated for this mode.
Extra light
The Grow Light Quattro can be used to provide extra light
in a greenhouse with both wavelength ranges activated.
An external timer can be used to set the grow light so
that it switches off during times when there is plenty of
sunlight. Set the timer to increase the daylight by the
desired number of hours.
Flowering control
You can boost flowering by activating only the red
wavelength range. You only need relatively low light
intensity to control flowering, so the light will be sufficient
for about 4 m2. To boost flowering in a greenhouse, for
instance, hang the grow light quite high up, activate only
the red wavelength range and set the light to shine about
4 hrs per day.
Overwintering
For overwintering, use only the blue/white wavelength
range.
Mediterranean varieties, citrus plants, palms, olive trees,
bay trees and geraniums. These plants need to overwinter
in cool, bright conditions. Adjust the lighting so that only
the blue/white light is activated. Hang the grow lamp in a
cool place (approx. 10°C and at a height of approx. 2 m. In
this case, the grow light will cover about 2 m2. Use a timer
and set it to approx. 12 hrs per day.
