General information

It is advisable to find a quiet, comfortable place where you can pump breast milk in a rela-
xed atmosphere without being disturbed.
Don't be surprised if the milk takes a little longer to start flowing properly at first. This is
nothing unusual. In fact it is quite normal, since as a rule:
Breast milk production adjusts to suit daily requirements.
The daily amount required by infants can vary considerably. For this reason mothers are
often recommended to drink as much as possible at first, in order to stimulate milk pro-
duction.
You should pump milk first from one breast, then from the other. However, pumping sho-
uld not exceed 7 minutes for each breast.

Breast massage preparation

Some Mothers may have difficulty in expressing milk either through using a manual bre-
ast pump or an Electric Pump. Using hot compresses with the massage method can assist
in opening the mammary glands contributing to the flow of breast milk.
A hot compression can be achieved as follows:
Immerse a clean towel in warm water (60-70°C).
Carefully squeeze out the excess water out of the towel.
