CORD
Plug your Power Cord only into proper jacks located on the Motor, Capacitor
and Solar Panel. Only use Panel or Capacitor with Motor included in this set.
Before you begin:
This set is designed for use with direct
sunlight. If you or your school still have
standard 60 watt incandescent light
bulbs, the Solar Panel will operate
indoors. When using an incandescent
bulb, never exceed the recommended
wattage for your lamp (sold separately).
Never place the Solar Panel on top of
your lamp or let it touch the bulb. You
will damage (melt) the Solar Panel.

Use the 5.1 in. (12.9 cm) red Rod as a
measuring device to keep your Solar
Panel at the right distance from the
light bulb.
Do not place the Panel closer than a
red Rod distance. The Panel may
overheat and be damaged.
Warnings and Operating Tips:
IMPORTANT:
Read all warnings and safety information before
you start to build and operate the models. Your teacher will provide
additional safety procedures appropriate to your classroom situation.
WARNING:
Light bulbs can cause burns when they are lighted and hot.
NEVER TOUCH A LIT BULB!
Do not use your K'NEX Solar Panel with any halogen bulb; the heat is too intense
and COULD BURN YOU OR CAUSE A FIRE.
Do not look directly at the sun.
CAUTION:
Keep hair, hands, face, clothing and Power Cord away from all
moving parts.
Capacitor Caution:
Be sure to match polarity (marked on the silver Capacitor)
when charging. Reversing polarity when charging can damage the Capacitor.
Do not short the terminals together as this may damage the Capacitor.
Keep this important information for future reference.
Additional Tips & Troubleshooting:
Note: The Solar Panel works best with sunlight but can be used with a standard
60-watt incandescent light bulb (filament bulb). The Solar Panel will not work
with fluorescent lights or flashlights.
The Solar Panel reacts to light (photons) but not heat. The more light (protons)
that hits the Panel, the more energy the Panel will generate. Excessive heat may
make your Solar Panel less effective.
If the Motor Shaft Rod should come off, push it back onto the metal drive shaft,
taking care not to bend the metal pin.
If your model is not moving, tap to get started. Check to see if it's correctly built.
Make sure your K'NEX Solar Components are working properly.
A Capacitor is an electronic device characterized by its ability to store an
electrical charge and be recharged. This electronic device is used for temporary
storage of electrical energy which can be used to power models at a later time.
The Capacitor does have a polarity much like a battery. The polarity is marked
on the Capacitor housing. Matching polarity is necessary during charging.
