General description
The Power Reducer RC is a wireless device which, when combined with Elios4you Smart
(single-phase and three-phase), provides the facility of producing hot water using photovol-
taic energy generated on site, without ever drawing power from the grid.
Thanks to the wireless connection with the Elios4you Smart or Elios4you [Pro] Smart con-
troller, the Power Reducer RC is easily installed near to the water heater or storage tank,
without any need for additional wiring.

Safety warnings
All hardware connections must be made by a person who is suitably qualified and aware of
the risks associated with installation, observing minimum standards of safety, and with the
equipment isolated from the power supply.
The user accepts all responsibilities and risks connected with the steps of installing, con-
figuring and using products to the end of obtaining the benefits and advantages they afford.
The liability of the Astrel Group in respect of its products is regulated by the Astrel Group

Do not disassemble, open up or attempt to repair the product. Opening up a sealed compo-
nent has the effect of invalidating the warranty.
Caution
IMPORTANT: The Power Reducer RC can be connected only to a purely resistive load; it
cannot be used with water heaters having built-in electronic control circuit boards, but must
be connected directly to the heating element and the relative electromechanical thermostat.
Warnings for installation (fig. 3)
WARNING: Use TERMINAL 1 (connector A and B) only to connect the two wires supplying
power to a resistive load. Any other kind of connection (e.g. sharing A or B with L or N) is
likely to cause electrical damage internally, and will invalidate the manufacturer's warranty.
WARNING: install a fuse or thermal magnetic breaker rated 20A to protect the device.
WARNING: Before cutting the cable, ensure that the water heater is not powered up.
WARNING: switch on the Power Reducer RC only with the cover closed.

Installation
Prior to installation
1)
Check that the distance at which the Power Reducer RC is installed from the load
will be compatible with the radio range indicated in the technical specifications.
Caution: the radio range between the two devices will typically guarantee
transmission through a suspended floor slab or a load-bearing wall. If radio
coverage proves to be unavailable, use a repeater.
2)
Check that the "Elios4you" App installed on the mobile device is communicating
correctly with the Elios4you Smart / Elios4you Pro device
Fixing
3)
Position the Power Reducer RC in such a way that it will always be properly
ventilated. Install the device vertically (cable glands facing downwards), ensuring a
clearance of at least 7 cm, top and bottom (fig. 2).

Fix the Power Reducer RC to the wall with Ø 6 mm masonry plugs, using the holes
indicated in fig. 2
5)
Fit the antenna supplied (ANT connector, see fig. 2)

Shut off the electricity supply to the installation site and check that the
water heater / storage tank is not powered up
7)
Make the electrical connections as indicated in the installation diagram (fig. 3 rear)
Caution: The current transformer (CT) must be clamped only on the phase line (L).

Refit and secure the protective cover
First power-up
9)
Switch on the Power Reducer RC
10) On power-up, check that all of the indicator Leds (fig. 1) blink for
2 seconds, before going dark and remaining off.
11) Start the "Elios4you" App to enable the "Power Reducer" function:
A) Menu
> System parameters > Peripherals management > select "Power
Reducer" > set load parameters (Nominal power of load/heating element)
B) Menu
> Preferences > Check (9) "View Power Reducer" and "Power
Reducer Detail"

> Smart RC > "Add Smart RC device" > "Start procedure" and press
the Power Reducer button when prompted by the App.

12) When the Power Reducer RC is paired correctly with the Elios4you Smart, the
GREEN Led remains permanently alight. The YELLOW and RED Leds indicate
normal operation (see table 1)
Check installation
13) Select Boost mode by pressing the button on the Power Reducer RC (see fig. 1)
14) Open the "Elios4you" App
15) Check the quality of the signal between Elios4you and Power Reducer RC by way
of the icon
alongside the Power Reducer symbol
16) Verify that the power diverted to the heating element corresponds to that
effectively set via the App.
17) Press the Power Reducer icon and activate the Timer function
Operation
In use, the response of the Power Reducer RC depends on the commands received from
the "Elios4you" App
Boost function: forces the connected heating element to switch on at 100% power. Can
be activated:
By pressing the button (fig. 1): The Boost function remains active for one hour, or

until the button is pressed again/a new command is received from App.
By way of the App: manually or setting the Timer function

Timer function
: allows the user to program forced on/off cycles of the resistive load,
irrespective of surplus power from the photovoltaic source.
