6.0 Operating Procedure

6.1 Start the system by initiating the flow of hydrogen. Set the MINICYL regulator to 50 psi and adjust the flow to 25 mL/min with
the metering valve. Verify the flow using a Restek flowmeter (cat.#22656) and an FID flow measuring adaptor (cat.# 21000).
Warning: Leak check all the new connections using a Restek leak detector (cat.# 28500). If a leak is detected, tighten the
connection an additional 1/8 turn.
6.2 Turn the carrier gas on and set it to an appropriate value.
6.3 Let the system purge using the methanizer hydrogen supply and carrier gas for at least 10 minutes.
6.4 Turn on the methanizer by switching the power button located above the power cord on the back of the unit to the ON position.
6.5 The methanizer is factory preset to 380 °C for optimal catalytic efficiency. However, this set point temperature can be adjusted
using the up and down arrow buttons to the right of the digital display (Figure 11).
6.6 Push the RUN button on the methanizer unit to start heating the catalyst tube. The actual temperature changes are displayed
on the digital display (Figures 12 and 13).
6.7 Allow system to stabilize for 1 hour.
6.8 During the stabilization period, adjust the inlet and FID temperature settings and light the FID (Table II).
6.9 Condition the catalyst tube by setting the GC oven temperature to 200 °C. Do not exceed the maximum temperature of your GC
column.

7.0 Front Panel Buttons

.1 The buttons are capacitive touch buttons (similar to the touch screen on your smart phone). They do not have a mechanical
7
detent when they are touched. When a button is touched, the lights on the front panel will flash, indicating the touch
was recognized.
The MODE button allows you to change screens.
7.2
7.3 The RUN button turns the heater on and off.
7.4 The up and down arrows change the set point of the methanizer.
