OPERATION
Letter references in parenthesis (A) refer to the included Identification Key.
The pipe bender is designed to bend water pipe and heavy gauge galvanized pipe. When bending conduit or a thin
walled pipe, you may experience problems with kinks or creases. To help limit the problem, fill the pipe with sand and
cap both ends before bending.
1.
Always use the pipe bender with the jack in its upright position. Make sure that there is room on all sides of the pipe
bender for the length of pipe you intend to bend.
2.
Place the pipe bender on a flat surface that can support the tool. Bolt the tool to the floor or workbench.
3.
Close the bottle jack's (B) release valve to allow hydraulic pressure to build during pumping.
4.
Test the bottle jack (B) before using to ensure it is functional. If the ram does not extend smoothly, check the oil and
bleed the jack (see Bleeding The Hydraulic System).
5.
Select the correct size bending die and install on the bottle jack's ram (B).
a.
Using a mismatched die size for the pipe can result in a misshapen bend.
6.
Install a roller into one of the five holes in the frame (E). Hold the roller (A) between the frame's holes, slide the roller
shaft (D) through the roller and holes on either side and secure the roller shaft with a hitch pin (P). Repeat on the
other side with the same set of holes.
a.
The bend angle becomes sharper the closer the rollers on either side are to the center die. Installing the rollers
on the farthest holes will create a bend of 35 to 45°. Rollers on the innermost holes will create a 90° bend.
7.
Lubricate the rollers (A) and dies (H to O) with a little oil where it will touch the pipe.
8.
Insert a length of pipe into between the rollers and die.
a.
A pipe's seam should not face the die directly.
b.
Adjust the rollers so the pipe is resting in the notches.
c.
The pipe must extend beyond the rollers. As the bend is created, the pipe will 'shorten' and could slide off the
rollers while under pressure. You may need release pressure and switch the rollers to holes closer to the die to
prevent this from occurring.
9.
Advance the die until the pipe is held in place by pressure. Check the alignment again.
10.
Pump the handle and apply slow gradual pressure to the pipe until it has reached the correct bend angle.
a.
The rollers should rotate to keep the pipe in the notches. Stop if one of the rollers is not rotating. Release
pressure and oil the contact points with the frame (E).
11.
Release pressure by opening the release valve while holding the pipe. The ram will retract automatically and release
the pipe

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

1.
Maintain the tool with care. A tool in good condition is efficient, easier to control and will have fewer problems.
2.
Inspect the tool components periodically. Repair or replace damaged or worn components. Only use identical
replacement parts when servicing.
3.
Follow instructions for lubricating and changing accessories.
4.
Only use accessories intended for use with this tool.
5.
Keep the tool handles clean, dry and free from oil/grease at all times.
6.
Maintain the tool's labels and name plates. These carry important information. If unreadable or missing, contact us
for replacements.
WARNING! Only qualified service personnel should repair the tool. An improperly repaired tool may present a
hazard to the user and/or others.
