SAFETY GUIDELINES
1. Read all instructions of Safety Guidelines thoroughly. Failure to follow the
guideline instructions could result in serious bodily injury and/or property
damage.
2. Follow all local electrical and safety codes, as well as the National Electrical
Code (NEC) and the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA).
3. This pump is supplied with a grounding conductor and /or grounding type
attachment plug. To reduce the risk of electrical shock, be certain that it is
connected to a properly grounded grounding type receptacle.
4. For maximum safety, this product should be connected to a three-prong
grounded outlet equipped with a ground fault circuit interrupter device.
5. Never lift this product by the electrical cord.
6. Do not use to pump flammable or explosive fluids such as gasoline, fuel oil,
kerosene, etc. Do not use in explosive atmospheres. Pump should be used
with liquids compatible with pump component materials.
7. Applications requiring continuous or near continuous duty should use
a submersible pump. This pump is designed for light duty residential
applications only.
OPERATION/INSTALLATION
1. This pump is designed for domestic household service only. Pump run time
in application should be two hours or less per day.
2. Sump size: 13" minimum diameter; 18" minimum - 24" maximum depth.
3. The vertical sump pump is designed to fit most residential basement
sumps. The pump must sit level in the sump. A tilted pump can trap air and
cause possible damage to the bearings. Make sure base sits on flat surface
before proceeding with installation.
4. INSTALL FLOAT ROD GUIDE AND FLOAT ROD: Remove float stem
components from polybag. Thread the float on the float stem approximately
eight turns. Slide the float stem guide on the float stem. Push rubber
stopper down approximately 5" from top of float stem. Place float stem
guide on column by aligning the tab on the inside of the half circle with the
hole in the pump column. Slide float stem through opening in the switch
lever and place the remaining rubber stopper on the top of the float stem.
5. The pump level can be adjusted by raising or lowering the lower rubber
stopper.
6. Make sure discharge pipe and switch side are clear from the walls of the
pump. Maximum clearance around float will ensure continuous operation
without failure.
7. In situations where the piping is long, or the vertical discharge is above 7' to
8', or a small pit has been provided, use of a check valve is recommended
to prevent back flow of water into the sump. When a check valve is used,
drill a relief hole (1/8" to 3/16" diameter) in the discharge pipe. The hole
should be located below the floor line between the pump discharge and
the check valve. Unless a relief hole is provided, the pump could "air lock",
and not pump water even though it will run.
8. A variety of possible discharge arrangements are available, dependent on
the location of the sump and existing, if any, piping. It is recommended
that a 16" length of 1-1/4" pipe and check valve be mounted directly to the
pump discharge. Alternative discharge piping can be connected to this
16" stand pipe and the installation can proceed from this point as needed.
The rigid 1-1/4" discharge stand pipe ensures that flexible joints or flexible
pipes do not obstruct the free movement of the switch mechanism. Also,
this arrangement improves flow.
9. TEST THE PUMP AFTER ALL CONNECTIONS HAVE BEEN MADE. Run
water into sump. Do not attempt to operate the pump without water; this will
damage the seals and bearings and could result in permanent damage to
the pump. Fill sump to normal "on" level and allow pump to remove water
to the normal "off" level (see fig. 1).
10. If cover is provided with sump, place cover on sump. This will prevent
debris from falling into the pit. Make sure cover does not obstruct free
movement of float and that maximum clearance is provided around the
pump column and float stem rod.

SERVICE/MAINTENANCE
MAKE CERTAIN THE UNIT IS DISCONNECTED FROM THE POWER SOURCE
BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO SERVICE OR REMOVE ANY COMPONENT!
1. If pump does not operate properly, consult the troubleshooting chart. If
trouble cannot be located with these steps shown, consult your pump
dealer or take pump to a Little Giant authorized service center.
2. Be certain power cord is in good condition and contains no nicks or cuts.
Sump pumps are usually ignored in dry weather when they are inactive.
When needed, after long periods of non-use, they are expected to perform
without failure. The design of this pump is made to reduce as much
maintenance to the pump as possible; however, to ensure long life, free
from breakdown, periodically check the installations during dry months to
be sure that the pump will be ready when needed. Preventive maintenance
should include:
1. Check Pump Motor: Gently lift switch lever arm to activate motor. Make
sure discharge pipe is securely in place before doing this. Release the
switch lever after a few seconds.
2. Disconnect Power Cord: Reach into sump and remove any debris that may
have inadvertently fallen into the sump.
3. Reconnect Power Cord to Supply: Run a hose into the sump and slowly
allow the pump to operate for three or four cycles with clean water to flush
sediment out of the system.
DIRECTIVES DE SÉCURITÉ
and Health Act (OSHA).
3. Votre pompe vient avec un fil de mise a la terre et/ou une prise
a trois branches.
