Before you start assembly
Two people without very much experience of building can easily assemble the
log cabin in 1 to 2 days. Read the assembly instructions before you start erect-
ing.
1. Check the contents of the package
Please check the contents of the package as soon as you receive it and before
erecting for any damage, missing or incorrect parts. If this should be the case
please contact your Universo dealer. You can check the contents against the
parts list (see Chapter G).
2. Foundation
Laying a good, level foundation is very important in order to prevent unneces-
sary major problems, such as:
• windows and doors that cannot be opened and closed properly.
• walls that cannot expand/contract in damp or dry weather so that cracks
can open up.

when carrying out maintenance.

Introduction
Congratulations with the purchase of your Universo log cabin. You have chosen
a high value quality product. The instructions and suggestions given below
are for the erection and maintenance and will guarantee you many years of
pleasure from your log cabin.
Depending on the surface the soil should be dug out to a depth of about 15-20
cm. This should then be fi lled up with builder's sand and thoroughly vibrated
down, and then a fl oor of tiles in a concrete border or concrete plates laid. The
fl oor must always be above the normal ground level. In order to avoid contact
with the ground you can also use Universo foundation joists that have been
impregnated under high pressure. See the website www.universo.nl for more
information about how to lay a foundation.
3. Pre-treatment of profi le sections
Before starting to erect the cabin you can treat the bare wood sections of your
log cabin all over with a wood stain or other wood preservative to give them
maximum protection. The grooves, tongues, crosscut ends and the corner joints
especially should be well protected against the infl uence of the weather. The
profi le sections must be dry before erecting.
The help block is
supplied in the
package.
that you know how to handle any electrical tools used.
Do not erect the log cabin if there are parts missing because of the possibility of
damage from the weather if the log cabin has to be left only partly completed.
Working on a ladder or on the roof
Be careful when you are standing on a ladder or the roof. Make sure that your
ladder is standing on a fi rm surface and leaning against a solid object. Do not
leave heavy or sharp objects in places where they could fall off .
