8. REGISTRATION

Note: regulations regarding registration and use of distress beacon vary from nation to nation. Make sure you are
aware of the appropriate local regulations.
Each beacon is programmed with a unique 15 digit Hexadecimal identity number (ID). This number is to be found in
the ID field of the beacon label. The owner of the beacon must register its beacon with the national authorities who
will supply the form necessary for its registration.
The beacon must be re-registered when changing ownership (See page 49.).
KANNAD Auto are coded in compliance with COSPAS-SARSAT serialised protocol or with coding protocol
applicable with the country of registration:
• either MMSI number;
• or radio call sign (except GPS versions);
• or serialized protocol.

8.1. Importance of accurate registration

When you activate your EPIRB in an emergency, the nearest maritime search and rescue coordination center
(MRCC) will receive the message and decode the country code. They will then access the registration database for
that country and expect to find details of your vessel, its radio equipment and who to contact. If they fail to find this
information, this may slow down any rescue.
