for children.
• Protect the product from extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, strong jolts, high humidity, moisture,
flammable gases, vapours and solvents.
• Do not place the product under any mechanical stress.
• If it is no longer possible to operate the product safely, take it out of operation and protect it from any
accidental use. Safe operation can no longer be guaranteed if the product:
- is visibly damaged,
- is no longer working properly,
- has been stored for extended periods in poor ambient conditions or
- has been subjected to any serious transport-related stresses.
• Please handle the product carefully. Jolts, impacts or a fall even from a low height can damage the
product.
• Also observe the safety and operating instructions of any other devices which are connected to the product.
Miscellaneous
• Consult an expert when in doubt about operation, safety or connection of the device.
• Maintenance, modifications and repairs are to be performed exclusively by an expert or at a qualified
shop.
• If you have questions which remain unanswered by these operating instructions, contact our technical
support service or other technical personnel.
4. Mounting
Put the hub onto a flat, horizontal surface or, alternatively, mount the hub with four screws (not included) onto
a suitable surface capable of bearing the load.
5. Operation
1. Connect the USB A-type plug to a vacant USB port of your PC.
2. Connect the USB mini-B-type plug to the hub's mini-B socket. The blue LED lights up indicating that the
hub is now operational.
The USB hub can also be operated without the enclosed wall plug transformer.
In which case, the hub functions in the so-called "Bus-Powered-Mode". This means that the current
(according to the standard, up to 900 mA for USB3.0 and up to 500 mA for USB2.0), supplied by the
computer via the USB, is distributed to the 4 ports.
This is sufficient for e.g. most mice or keyboards, but many other devices may not work correctly
(e.g. external 6.35cm/2.5" hard disks, card readers with CompactFlash hard disk, USB cameras etc.).
In which case, power the USB hub via the enclosed wall plug transformer ("Self-Powered-
Mode"), each USB port on the hub will then provide a higher current.
If you notice that a device which is connected to the USB hub does not work correctly, or is not
recognised, operate the USB hub via the wall plug transformer.
3. If you use the power supply unit, plug it first into a mains outlet with suitable operating voltage.
4. Connect the power supply unit's low-voltage plug to the hub's corresponding input socket. The LED on the
power supply lights up.
• You can connect up to four USB devices to the hub. The hub supports Plug & Play and hot-
swapping (device drivers are automatically recognized and the devices themselves can be
removed while the OS is running).
• Once you connect a data transfer capable USB device to the hub, the green status LED above
the relevant USB port lights up.
6. Tips
• The USB3.0 hub is USB2.0/1.1 compatible. This means that normal USB2.0/1.1 devices can be used
without any problem on the USB3.0 Hub. However, this will not speed up the USB2.0/1.1 devices! Of
course, the USB3.0 hub can also be used with a USB2.0/1.1 port, e.g. if your computer does not have a
USB3.0 interface. Neither in this case is an increase in the data transmission speed possible.
• In order to take advantage of the high speed provided by USB3.0, all the devices must support USB3.0:
These devices are the USB device itself (e.g. an external hard disk), the USB hub and the USB controller
inside the PC. However, the theoretical maximum speed for USB3.0 (or also USB2.0/1.1) is never achieved
in practice. This is due to protocol information, simultaneous operation of several USB devices or the speed
Version 05/12
limit of the connected device or the USB controllers/motherboards.
• Normally, USB operation is not possible in DOS or in the protected mode of Windows. Nevertheless,
depending on the computer or BIOS /Setup settings, it possible to use a USB keyboard and a USB mouse.
It is necessary, however, to connect them directly to the computer's USB interface, i.e. not to the USB Hub.
• USB devices can be plugged in and unplugged while the PC is in use. This means that you do not have to
switch off your computer, when you want to plug in or unplug devices (with other interfaces this can cause
damage, e.g. if you connect or disconnect a PS/2 mouse during operation). If data transfers are in progress
on the USB port, e.g. if an external disk is inputting data to the computer, and you unplug the USB plug,
Windows might crash or the data system on the external disk may be damaged!
• For some USB devices (e.g. USB hard drives) Windows XP, Windows Vista™ or Windows 7 displays an icon
with an arrow in the menu bar. You can "separate" the USB device from the computer using this function,
and thus instruct the computer to close opened files. Afterwards, the USB device can be unplugged safely.
• Only use suitable USB3.0 cables for connecting USB3.0 devices. Please note that the data transfer rate
may decrease if the USB3.0 cables are very long.
7. Maintenance and Cleaning
Do not use abrasive cleaning agents, cleaning alcohol or chemical solutions, since
these could damage the housing or even impair operation.
• Maintenance or repairs must only be carried out by qualified personnel or a specialised repair shop. The
product contains no parts that require servicing. Therefore, do not open/dismantle it.
• Use a clean, dry, soft cloth for cleaning. Do not apply too much pressure on the housing, this could result
in scratch marks.
• Dust can easily be removed using a clean brush and a vacuum cleaner.
8. Disposal
Electronic devices are recyclable waste and must not be disposed of in the household waste.
At the end of its service life, dispose of the product according to the relevant statutory regulations.
