11. Wastewater pH value

11.1. Influence of the pH value on the treatment performance of the separating system
Chemical separationg (reaction) by admixing STORCH separating agent assumes that the wastewater
has a pH value between 6.5 and 9.0; that is, that it is neutral in terms of wastewater technology. This value also
represents the legally permissible disposal limits.
Decorating wastewater typically meets this precondition. If the pH value of the wastewater differs greatly from this,
legally compliant treatment performance by the separating plant is not warranted. Always note this when working with
acids and brines.
11.2. pH limits/wastewater regulations
The pH value of the wastewater discharged into the sewage system must not have a pH value below 6.5
and must not have a pH value above 9.0, that is, it must be "neutral" in terms of wastewater technology.
pH 6.5: lower pH limit
pH 9.0: upper pH limit
11.3. Measuring and checking the pH value
The pH value is determined colorimetrically using pH indicator paper dosed with colour indicators. After immersing the
strip in the solution to be tested, the colour changes and can be compared with a colour scale to read off the pH value.
Indicator papers are not suitable for precise measurements. However, they are sufficiently accurate for daily work and
fast tests on site.

12. Slurry disposal

Wastewater treatment produces the following residual materials: separating agent sludge from wastewater treatment
You must dispose of these residues in line with your local authority's regulations on disposal of waste in
the decorating industry.
