Quick Install

IMPORTANT! Before purchasing or installing drives, check the compatibility list available for your px12 network
storage array at http://support.lenovoemc.com for approved and supported HDD and SSD brands and models.
If you have purchased more than one px12 device, complete all steps on one before setting up additional devices.
1. Make sure at least one drive (HDD or SSD) is installed in the px12 device.
2. Use the included network cable to connect the px12 to a network hub, switch, or router.
3. Connect both included power cords to the power supply connectors on the back of the px12 and to an
Uninterruptible Power Supply. (UPS is recommended to protect your px12 and data.)
4. Power on the px12.
5. Go to http://setup.lenovoemc.com to launch setup for your px12.
If you cannot access the web setup portal or your device isn't displayed there, start the management interface as
described below to initiate the setup sequence.
Using Your px12 Network Storage Array
Finding Your px12 on the Network
You can download and use LenovoEMC
with supported LifeLine storage devices on your network. LenovoEMC Storage Manager is available for Windows
Mac , and Linux computers. A simplified client, LenovoEMC Storage Connector, is preloaded on selected Lenovo
® ®
computers running Windows 7 and 8.1, and can also be downloaded.
If you choose not to use LenovoEMC client software, you can locate and login to Shares on your px12 using your
computer's operating system (for example, Windows Explorer or Mac Finder). See the user manual for detailed
instructions.
Starting the Management Interface
• From a LenovoEMC client, select Configure features, the Manage menu option, or the settings icon.
• From Windows Explorer, go to Network > Other Devices and double-click the device name.
• From a web browser, enter the device IP address or model name (for example, px12-450r or px12-400r). To use
the model name on a Mac, add .local after the name in the browser (for example, px12-450r.local).
In order to manage the device, you must first complete the setup sequence, and then login using a valid administrator
user name and password.
Powering off the px12 / Disconnecting from the Network
You can keep the px12 powered on for constant use on your network. If you need to disconnect it from your network,
power down using either the power button or the shut down option in the management console.
CAUTION: To prevent data loss, do not disconnect this device or any connected storage devices during data transfer.
Backing up Your px12 Network Storage
It is recommended that you backup content stored on your px12 frequently to ensure that your critical data is always
protected. Consult the help files available from the management console for information on how to copy files to other
network locations. You can also use backup software that supports NAS devices.
