congratulations on your purchase of the
Insect bite pen. Please read these opera-
ting instructions thoroughly before use. It
is important for proper use of the product.
1. How it works
When you are bitten or stung by an insect,
protein-containing poisons are introduced
into your body. The body then has an aller-
gic reaction to these poisons. This involves
the production of histamine, which causes
itching (which can last for some time) as
well as burning and swelling. To counteract
this effect, the insect bite pen uses the
principle of hyperthermia, or the controlled
application of locally concentrated heat.
When the temperature exceeds around
50°C, the protein chains of the poison are
destroyed and the production of further
histamine by the body is prevented. This
principle is not new. Sailors have long used
heated irons to relieve itching and the pain
of bites and stings. The effectiveness of
this approach has been clinically proven.
Following immediate application, 74 % of
test subjects experienced substantial re-
lief from itching, burning and pain. 66 %
found that after 24 hours the sting had
cleared up completely.
