The Digi Connect ES Device Server collects information from serial devices and
passes that information on to an Ethernet network.
1. Grounding
Mount the device server on a wall or place it on a tabletop. See precautions and
warnings below. Connect an optional grounding wire to the grounding stud (4).
2. Power On
Attach the power cord to the Digi Connect ES Device Server (3) and turn the
Power switch (2) on. The Power LED (10) will light.
3. Connect to the Network
Use an Ethernet cable to connect one of the Ethernet ports (6) to the network.
The LED (7) will light if the connection is active and blink if data is transmitted.
4. Connect Other Ethernet Devices (Optional)
Connect up to two additional Ethernet devices (such as a laptop PC) to either
remaining Ethernet port (6).
5. Connect Serial Devices
Connect the serial device to a serial port (11) on the Digi Connect ES Device
Server. If the connection between the device and the network is established, the
serial port LED (8) will be lit.
Warnings and Precautions
• For best practices mount the device server on a wall or place it on a tabletop
away from high traffic areas. Keep cables out of reach and off the floor.
• Do not use data from the device server for diagnosis without validating the
integrity of the entire information collection system.
• Do not use the device server to activate, de-activate, control, or adjust any
medical device.
• Do not use near any device that emits electromagnetic waves such as large
motors or electrosurgical equipment or the data may be corrupted.
• Do not sterilize the device server. (To clean: gently wipe the case with a mild
detergent or 70% isopropyl alcohol.)
• Disconnect all devices from the device server before using Diagnostic mode.
