10.3 Sources and colors

Several technologies are distinguished today:
Lasers based on GAS tubes:
They are the industrial standard for laser shows, but obsolete these
days. They are big, need a lot of power, are watercooled and
complicated to install. Most of them use Argon (blue and green) and
Krypton (red) as gas.
Laser Diode:
Laser diodes are the simplest kind of lasers you can find. It consists only
of a semiconductor emitting the light. This allows a long life span, and
doesn't require frequent maintenance. They also offer the best
modulation possible (up to 100Khz).
DPSS Lasers:
A Diode-pumped solid-state laser which is available in a lot of colors.
They use an infrared diode and a crystal to convert the invisible light to
visible. DPSS offer great power, especially in the green range. Yet their
modulation isn't that good and they are sensitive to vibrations.
