5. Assembly / Operation
5.3 Use as a free-standing ladder
1.
Do not use ladders to climb up to another level.
Ensure that both parts of the ladder open fully
2.
and securely. Avoid positioning the ladder
incorrectly.
Do not use the free-standing ladder as a single
3.
ladder.
Do not use the top two levels/rungs of a step-
4.
ladder without a platform, or a holding area for
hands or knees, as a standing surface.
Only the ladder rungs provided may be used
as a standing and tread surface. Other surfaces
5.
(for example an available plastic rack) must be
labelled and may not be used as a standing
and tread surface.
6. Servicing / maintenance
The care and maintenance of the ladder should ensure its func-
tioning. The ladder must be regularly checked for damage. The
function of the movable parts must be ensured.
Repairs to the ladder must be carried out by a competent person
and in accordance with the instructions of the manufacturer.
Cleaning of the ladder, particularly all movable parts, should be
carried out as soon as possible after use for visible contaminati-
on. Only use standard, water soluble detergent. Do not use any
aggressive, abrasive agents.
For commercial use of the ladder, a regular, periodic inspection
of the proper condition is required by a qualified person (visual
and functional inspection).
For this, the type, scope and time periods of the required checks
are to be established.
Time intervals for checks are dependent on the operating con-
ditions, in particular according to frequency of use, stress in use,
as well as the frequency and severity of faults found in previous
checks.
The contractor also has to ensure, that damaged ladders are with-
drawn from use and are kept in such a way that further use before
appropriate repair or disposal is not possible.
