hot water, the lid must be kept closed at all times.
✦ The kettle may only be operated with the base provided with
the appliance.
✦ Never remove the water container from the base (or replace
it) while the appliance is switched on.
✦ Caution: Keep any packaging materials well away from children – such
materials are a potential source of danger, e.g. of suff ocation.
✦ Every time the appliance is used, the main body including the power
cord as well as any attachment fi tted should be checked thoroughly for
any defects. Should the appliance, for instance, have been dropped onto
a hard surface, or if excessive force has been used to pull the power cord,
it must no longer be used: even invisible damage may have adverse
eff ects on the operational safety of the appliance.
✦ The appliance must be used only on a heat-resistant, level surface.
✦ Do not operate the appliance below a hanging cupboard or similar
object; there is a risk that escaping steam may be trapped underneath.
✦ The exterior surfaces become hot during use and will remain so for some
time afterwards.
✦ Do not allow the appliance or its power cord to come into contact with
open fl ames or any hot surfaces such as hot-plates.
✦ Do not let the power cord hang free, and keep the cord well away from hot
parts of the housing.
✦ Always remove the plug from the wall socket,
- in case of any malfunction,
- after use,
- during cleaning.
✦ No responsibility is accepted if damage results from improper use, or if
these instructions are not complied with.
Thermal safety cut-out
The preset thermal safety cut-out protects the heating element from
overheating should the appliance be erroneously switched on without any
water, or if the heating element is calcifi ed. Once the safety cut-out has
switched off the kettle, it must be allowed to cool down suffi ciently, or must
be descaled before it is switched on again.
Before using for the fi rst time
For reasons of hygiene, boil and discard the fi rst fi lling of water.
