Safety precautions in collective listening mode

When used in collective listening mode the terminal shall not be put close to the ear:
auditory acuity of the listener may be damaged as a result of this misuse due to the audio
power output level.
3.1.4
Safety precautions and information relating to the exposure of users to
electromagnetic fields
The TPH700 Ex complies with the limits for the exposure of workers as laid down in
European Directive 2004/40/EC. This directive requires compliance with the Specific
Absorption Rate (SAR) limit, which is the radio frequency energy absorbed by the body.
This limit is defined by the directive as 10 W/kg (averaged over 10 g of human tissue).
The SAR of the TPH700 Ex is measured according to a European standard and operated
at maximum power in permanent transmit mode, against the ear, as with a GSM mobile.
The maximum SAR levels for the TPH700 Ex radio are as follows:
• 4.56 W/kg: Portable radio operating in the 380-490 MHz waveband against the ear
• 4.95 W/kg: Portable radio operating in the 440-490 MHz waveband against the ear
3.1.5

Precautions when using the TPH700 Ex radio

A - Precautions concerning users and non-users
Precautions must be taken in certain situations (when driving, or for use in certain
locations: aeroplanes, hospitals, service stations, ammunition storage areas, etc.).
Precautions should be taken by wearers of electronic implants (pacemakers, insulin
pumps, neurostimulators, etc.), in particular regarding the distance between the portable
radio and the implant.
B - Advice to reduce the level of user exposure
The SAR of the TPH700 Ex can be reduced by the following actions:
• Reduce the power in direct mode (menu setting).
• Reduce transmit time (transmit time is the time during which the push-to-talk button is
held down
permanent transmit mode will result in an SAR of 2.28 W/kg for the user, if the radio is in
transmit mode at maximum power 50% of the time (averaged over six minutes).
• Use the offset roof antenna when using the vehicle kit inside a vehicle.
