POCKET
Located on the bottom (floor) of the mouth at the base of the tongue
Taking an oral temperature
Place the probe tip under the tongue as near as possible to the heat pocket.
Approximate measuring time: 30 seconds.
Note: Please remember that the oral temperature is a little higher than external temperature (about
0.3˚C or 32.54˚F).
Suggestion: Close your mouth at least 2 minutes before taking the temperature for a more accurate
measuring.
Taking an underarm temperature
Wipe the underarm with a dry towel and place the probe tip under the arm so the tip is touching the
skin with the thermometer perpendicular to the body. Put your arm across the chest so the probe tip is
covered properly.
Approximate measuring time: 10 seconds.
Note: Underarm temperatures are generally 0.5˚C or 32.9˚F lower than oral readings.
Suggestion: Close your armpit at least 5 minutes before temperature taking for a more accurate
measurement.
Taking a rectal temperature
Apply a water-soluble lubricant to the probe cover. Gently insert the probe (MAXIMUM ½") into the
rectum.
Approximate measuring time: 20 seconds.
Note: Please remember that the rectal temperature is a little higher than external temperature (about
0.5˚C or 32.9°F).
