Thank you for purchasing the Petromax
Griddle and Fire Bowl! With your new fs38,
fs48 or fs56 you can prepare delicious meals
over an open fire or, if you use it as a fire bowl,
you can light a cosy fire in it. We are convinced
that you will greatly enjoy your new Petromax
Griddle and Fire Bowl and we hope that it will
make the time you spend in the open air even
more varied.
IMPORTANT NOTES
Please read this user manual carefully and
keep it! In order for you to enjoy your new
griddle and fire bowl for a long time, we
advise that you read the following instruc-
tions. If the product is given to another
person, this user manual must also be given
to that person.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PRODUCT

The Petromax Griddle and Fire Bowl fs38, fs48
and fs56 can be used in two different ways:
It serves as a griddle or as a fire bowl. What-
ever you plan to do with it: Thanks to its two
handles, the Petromax fs is easy to handle
and practical to transport. The three pillars
can be screwed into the thread bushings on
the bottom and ensure that the griddle stands
safely on the ground. Thanks to the removable
pillars, your griddle and fire bowl can be used
universally.
1. COOKING, FRYING AND GRILLING
You can use the griddle and fire bowl in the
open air on a cooking area (e.g. gas flame),
on a campfire or on an adequate barbecue.
Since the centre of the griddle becomes hotter
than the outer surface, it is possible for food
that requires different cooking temperatures
to be ready at the same time. Moreover, meals
that have already been prepared can continue
cooking or be kept warm on the edge.

2. LIGHTING A FIRE

You can also use the fs38, fs48 or fs56 as a fire

bowl. The removable pillars ensure a perfect
distance from the ground and avoid burnt
patches. Just stack some firewood as usual,
light it and relax in front of a beautiful fire.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

Caution! The griddle and fire bowl
can become extremely hot when
used. Protect your hands with heat-
resistant gloves or a cloth when you
touch the hot Petromax fs.
• Never let the griddle unattended while it
is in use. Watch over children and animals
when they are close to the griddle.
• If you want to use the Petromax fs over an
open fire, only do it in the open air and
never in closed rooms. There is a fire hazard
and danger of suffocation. Comply with
fire safety regulations. Show consideration
to the plant and animal life and to nature
reserves when you start a fire outdoors.
• Make sure your griddle and fire bowl is
steady and stands safely on a fireproof
ground.
• Caution! With liquid fire-lighters there
is a danger of explosion. Therefore
we recommend to light the fire with
solid fire-lighters such as coal- or grill-
lighters-, or wood chips.
• Make sure you have a way to extinguish the
fire in case of an emergency (water, sand,
fire blanket, fire extinguisher).
• Let the griddle cool down entirely after
use. Remove the ashes of the fire only once
they have cooled down. Then dispose of the
ashes properly. Never throw hot ashes in the
domestic refuse!
BEFORE THE FIRST USE AS A
GRIDDLE
The griddle and fire bowl is coated with food-
safe paraffin oil by the factory in order to
prevent corrosion. However you must season
your griddle a first time anyway before using it.
1. Put some grease that can be heated at a
high temperature (e.g. clarified butter or
coconut butter) on your griddle to cover its
surface. Spread the grease on the whole
surface, e.g. with a brush.
