SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

WARNING! Read and understand all
instructions. Read and follow all Safety
Rules and Operating Instructions before using
this product. Read instructions carefully before
assembling. Failure to follow all instructions
listed below may result in electric shock, fire
and/or serious personal injury.

1. OPERATOR SAFETY

a) Use this trimmer for shrubs and hedges
only. Do not use for any other purpose.
b) Always wear safety glasses or similar
eye protection when operating or performing
maintenance.
c) Use safety equipment. Dust mask,
non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing
protection may be used for appropriate
conditions.
d) Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing
or jewelry. Contain long hair. Keep your
hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving
parts. Loose clothes, jewelry, or long hair
can be caught in moving parts. Keep handles
dry, clean and free from oil and grease.
Rubber gloves and non-skid footwear are
recommended when working outdoors. Do
not operate the tool when barefoot or when
wearing open sandals. Wear long pants to
protect your legs.
e) Stay alert, watch what you are doing
and use common sense when operating
a power tool. Do not use tool while tired
or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or
medication. A moment of inattention while
operating power tools may result in serious
personal injury.
f) Avoid accidental starting. Be sure switch
is "OFF" before plugging in. Carrying tools
with your finger on the switch or plugging
in tools that have the switch "ON" invites
accidents. Do not use a tool if the power
switch does not turn it "ON" and "OFF".
g) Do not overreach. Keep proper footing
and balance at all times. Proper footing and
balance enable better control of the tool in
unexpected situations.
h) Keep by-standers, children, visitors
A
and animals away while operating. If
approached, stop unit immediately.
i) Save these instructions. Refer to them
frequently and use them to instruct others who
may use this tool. If someone borrows this tool,
make sure they have these instructions.
Warning: Some dust created when using lawn
and garden power tools contains chemicals
10
known to cause cancer, birth defects and other
reproductive harm.
Some examples of these chemicals are:
•crystalline silica from sand, bricks and other
masonry dust
•arsenic and chromium from chemically
treated lumber (CCA)
•compounds in fertilizer
•compounds in insecticides, herbicides and
pesticides
Health risk from these chemical exposures
varies, depending on the environment in which
you are working and how often you do this
type of work.
When using lawn and garden power tools,
wear safety equipment such as gloves and
dust masks which are especially designed to
filter out microscopic particles.

2. ELECTRICAL SAFETY

a) Double insulated tools are constructed
with two separate layers of electrical insulation
or one double thickness layer of insulation
between you and the tool's electrical system.
Tools built with this insulation system are not
intended to be grounded. As a result, your
tool is equipped with a two prong plug which
permits you to use extension cords without
concern for maintaining a ground connection.
Note: Double insulation does not take the
place of normal safety precautions when
operating this tool. The insulation system is for
added protection against injury resulting from
a possible electrical insulation failure within
the tool.
b) To reduce the risk of electric shock,
this tool is equipped with a polarized plug
(one blade is wider than the other.) This
tool will require the use of a polarized
extension cord. The polarized plug will fit
in a polarized receptacle only one way. If
the plug does not fit fully in the receptacle,
reverse the plug. If it still does not fit,
contact a qualified electrician to install a
polarized outlet. Do not change the tool
plug, extension cord receptacle or the
extension cord plug in any way. Double
insulation eliminates the need for the three
wire grounded power cord and grounded
power supply system. Before plugging in the
tool, be certain the outlet voltage supplied is
within the voltage marked on the nameplate.
Do not use "AC only" rated tools with a DC
power supply.
