IF BAND SWITCH
When the power is on, the
indicator will light up, according
to the position of the WIDE/NARROW selector switch.
Press this switch
to set the unit to the 'NARROW]
position. The
corresponding indicator will light up when the switch is pressed.
Use the WIDE
switch
for normal! reception, and use the NARROW
position only when
there is reception
interference from neighbor-
ing stations
This switch only switches the bandwidth of the FM
IF section.
The frequencies will be programmed together into the memory in
the WIDE/NARROW
modes.
PGM
REC
BUTTON
(FOR
RECORDING
DIFFERENT
STATIONS WHILE YOU ARE OUT)
This function
allows
you
to make
recording
reservations
for up
to six different AM or FM stations while you are away.
Storing station selections
Press
the
PGM
REC
button
to light the PGM
REC
LED,
then
press the MEMORY
button;
this causes
the MEMO
indicator to
light
for about
5 seconds,
Station
reservations
can
be stored
in
the turner's
memory
during
these
five seconds.
Reservations can
be stored in any order for both AM
and FM.
Example:

To make
reservations for six stations, press the PGM
REC button
(the LED
lights), followed by the MEMORY
button (the MEMO
indicator lights).
1. Store[FM1]|,
the first reservation.
This is done by pressing the
FM button and [1 |.
2.
The
MEMO
LED
lights for continuing
additional
5 seconds;
store the second reservation,
[AM3].
This is done by pressing
\ the AM button, followed by [3 ].
6.
Continue
this sequence
until up to six reservations have been
stored.
The
MEMO
indicator
goes
out
immediately
when
the sixth
re-
servation
has
been
stored.
To
clear
reservations
from
memory,
perform
the sequence
described
above,
but without
storing any
reservations.
MONITOR
BUTTON
— CONFIRMING
STATION
RE-
SERVATIONS
Press the MONITOR
button. This causes the [FM] ({AM]) lamp
to
light
together
with
the
memory
channel
indicators
in the
sequence
in which
stations were entered, allowing the PGM
REC
reservations
to
be confirmed.
Each
program
reservation
is dis-
played
for about
1 second
before
the confirmation
function
moves on to the next one.
In the case of
(the first selection), the reservation
is in-
O
dicated by lighting the
and Tay LEDs.
The LEDs stop lighting when the sixth (or last) program has been
displayed.
If the
MONITOR
button
is pressed
after the third
Program
reservation
([FM8]in
an
example)
has
been
recorded,
the
monitor
function
allows
the
remaining
reservations
to
be
checked
by lighting
[AM4},
[AM5], and
for the fourth,
fifth, and sixth reservations.
* With
programmed
recording,
the first station
reservation
is
recorded
when
the power
is turned on the first time, the second
is recorded
when
the
power
is turned
on the second
time, and
so forth.
Q3) MODE FM MUTING SWITCH
When
this switch
is pressed, the reception
mode
will switch
to
monaural, and the muting
will turn off. Pressing it again will
change the reception mode back to stereo, and the muting will
turn back on.
Switch
not pressed:
FM broadcasts will be received in stereo. The
reception mode will automatically switch to mono for monau-
ral broadcasts.

In addition,
the
muting
will
be on, suppressing
interstation
noise and making
it easy to tune in the desired stations. How-
ever, the muting function will also tend to suppress the recep-
tion of weak stations.
Therefore,
if you
live in a fringe signal area, press this switch
and listen to the stations in mono.
Switch
pressed:
This will receive
stereo
broadcast
in mono.
Use
this position when reception noise is extensive or if you live in
a fringe signal area.
TUNING
PROCEDURES
There
are
three methods of tuning this unit: preset tuning, auto-
matic tuning, and ordinary tuning.
PRESET TUNING
A total of 16 station
frequencies
(8 AM, MW
or LW stations,
and 8 FM stations).
The
procedure
for storing
frequencies
in the tuner's
memory
is
as follows:
1. When
storing FM frequencies, press the
button: when
storing AM frequencies, press the
[AM!
button.
2. Tune
in the desired
station
using the UP and
DOWN
tuning
button.
3. After
the
station
has
been
tuned
in, press
the
MEMORY
button.
4. The
MEMO
indicator
will
light when
the MEMORY
button
is pressed, and remains lit for about 5 seconds.
.
5. While the MEMO
indicator is lit, press any PRESET
button.
6. The
PRESET
indicator
LED
corresponding
to
the
preset
memory
channel
lights, indicating that the frequency has been
stored.
The
FM
reception
mode
(stereo
or
mono)
is also stored
when
storing FM frequencies,
For example:
When
an
FM
frequency
has
been
stored
with
the tuner
in the
mono
mode,
selecting
that
station
through
preset
tuning
will
result
in mono
reception.
However,
once
the
station
has been
tuned
in, reception
can
be switched
to stereo
by
pressing
the
MODE
FM MUTING switch. This does not affect the mode setting
In memory,
and
reception
will
be
in mono
the
next
time this
station is selected through preset tuning.
AUTOMATIC
TUNING
When
either
of the tuning
buttons
is heid down
for more
than
0.5
seconds,
the
frequency
is automatically
raised
or
lowered
until a station
is encountered;
tuning
then stops at the station's
exact frequency.
