MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING

To ensure long, reliable operation of the unit, proceed
as follows:
• Clean the outside of the furnace regularly with a
cloth moistened in soapy water.
• Take care not to damage the muffle lining the
inside walls of the furnace hearth when you put in
or take out cylinders and crucibles.
• Always use the SiO
filtration, which may damage the muffle.
• Prevent liquids or solids from contaminating or
dirtying the muffle of the furnace.
• To make best use of the unit, TALLERES
MESTRAITUA, S.L. recommends the use of
MESTRA cylinders and crucibles.
• If the machine detects that the temperature is
higher than 1150 ºC, a special display will appear,
and also a characteristic acoustic signal indicating
a dangerous situation (Fig. 1).
These
characteristic
alternatively in the two displays, and disappear
after 3 seconds. The display will then show t h e
usual signal. This situation will repeat every 5
seconds.
This alarm appears also when the triac breaks.
• When this happens and the alarm signal appears,
disconnect the main switch and call for technical
assistance.
• The furnace has two circuit breakers located near
the cable (J and K) to protect the furnace against
electric overloads. To get the furnace working
again, reset the circuit breaker.

IMPORTANT

If the temperature indicator display (1) flashes
during normal furnace operation and reads 1200 ºC,
disconnect the unit from the mains and consult
your authorised MESTRA dealer: the thermocouple
is damaged. The thermocouple is subject to wear,
and its durability depends on working temperature.
This element is not covered by guarantee.

PRECAUTIONS
♦ Before connecting the unit ensure that the power
outlet is for 230 V, 50/60 Hz, and that it is
earthed. It must also be properly protected by a
thermal magnetic cut-out (consult your installer).
♦ Do not allow children or unskilled personnel to
handle the unit.
♦ Always keep the door closed while the furnace is
operating.
♦ Take care when opening the door: the hot fumes
pouring out can cause burns.
♦ Do not overfill the furnace or place objects in it
which might fall when the door is opened.
♦ Do not put inflammable materials or liquids in
the furnace, or substances which may give off
toxic fumes.
♦ Place the furnace on a flat, firm, vibration-free
surface close to an extractor hood. Ensure that
the furnace is well away from any inflammable
materials.
♦ Place the unit so that its sides are at least 15 cm
from any wall or other object. Take particular
care to place the ventilation tube in a free area
at least 20 cm from the closest object.
♦ Always use gauntlets and tongs to remove and
put in cylinders and crucibles. Do not touch the
metal housing of the furnace when it may be hot.
♦ Handle heated materials removed from the
furnace with great care: their temperature may
be as high as 1100 ºC and may therefore cause
accidents.
♦ Before using the furnace for the first time, hold it
at 300 ºC for 1 hour to eliminate any moisture in
the muffle.
♦ Always use the furnace under an extractor hood.
