miniAlarm
MOTION SENSOR
Thank you for purchasing the miniAlarm™ Motion Sensor from Control Products. The miniAlarm™ has a "passive infrared" motion detector that can
detect movement and changes in temperature up to 20 feet (6 m) away. The miniAlarm can detect motion within approximate angles of 30° vertical and
60° horizontal. The miniAlarm™ also has an audible alarm and an alarm output that can be used to trigger an alarm system panel or our Deluxe
FreezeAlarm™ which can alert you by phone of an intruder alarm at your monitored location. Please read this instruction manual carefully and
TEST your miniAlarm™ to ensure it is working properly.
BATTERIES:
The Motion Sensor requires four AA sized Alkaline or Lithium batteries (not included)
The remote control requires three AG13 sized batteries (these are included)
(also known as LR1154, EPX76, A76 and LR44 batteries)

Basic Operation:
Your miniAlarm Motion Sensor is designed to be armed and disarmed
using the remote control. When the "arm" button is pressed, there is a 30
second delay before the Motion Sensor is fully armed. This is designed to
give you time to leave the premises. Once armed, the unit is constantly
monitoring for motion. The miniAlarm is not recommended for use in a
home with pets that are free to roam in the monitored area.
If motion is detected, there is a four second delay before the siren sounds.
If you are entering the premises while the unit is armed, you have four
seconds to point the remote at the Motion Sensor and press the "disarm"
button or the siren will sound for 30 seconds and the alarm output will be
activated. After 30 seconds, the unit will automatically reset and be ready
to detect motion in a fully armed
mode.
Battery Installation
1. Using
a
Phillips
screwdriver,
remove the screw at the bottom of
the Motion Sensor and lift the
bottom of the back plate as shown
in the diagram at the right.
2. Insert four brand new Alkaline or
Lithium
AA
sized
batteries
following the diagram inside the
battery compartment and according to the diagram at the right. There
will be a short beep when the last battery is installed to indicate the
batteries are inserted properly.
3. If you are going to utilize the alarm output, feed the output wire through
the lower hole in the back plate. See the section titled "Alarm Output
Connection" for more information on this connection.
4. Replace the back plate, clipping the top of the cover in place first and
then fasten the screw.
Learning Remote Control Code
After installing the batteries in the Motion Sensor, point the Remote Control
at the Motion Sensor and press the "ARM" button. The red LED on the
remote control should light up when you press the "ARM" button and the
LED on the Motion Sensor will flash once indicating the alarm has received
and learned the code. If the LED on the Remote Control does not light up,
open up the battery compartment on the Remote Control and using your
thumb, rotate the batteries several times and retry the learning code
process. If the LED on the Remote Control still does not light up when
buttons are pressed, replace the batteries. IMPORTANT: If you purchase
additional Remote Controls, make sure all the dip switches are in identical
positions between all remotes BEFORE teaching the Motion Sensor the
codes.
Mounting Instructions
The miniAlarm Motion Sensor is designed to be either free standing or wall
mounted. To wall mount, remove the back plate and using the screws
provided, mount the back plate to the wall. Clip the Motion Sensor unit to
the back plate and check that batteries are secure and fasten screw.
Arming the miniAlarm Motion Sensor
Before you leave the monitored area, point the Remote Control directly at
the Motion Sensor and press the "ARM" button. There will be a short
"BEEP" followed by a 30 second delay before the unit is fully armed. The
delay is designed to give you plenty of time to exit the monitored area
without activating the alarm.
Disarming the miniAlarm Motion Sensor
Upon returning to the monitored area, you will hear a short "BEEP"
indicating the Motion Sensor has detected your presence. You now have
four seconds to DISARM the Motion Sensor.
Remote Control at the Motion Sensor and press the "DISARM" button.
Low Battery Indicator
When the red LED light on the Motion Sensor is on, the batteries are low
and should be replaced. Replace ALL batteries with new AA sized alkaline
or lithium batteries. The Remote Control uses three AG13 sized batteries.
If the red LED on the Remote Control does not light up, replace batteries.
Alarm Output Connections
The miniAlarm Motion Sensor has a 12" (30.48cm), two conductor wire that
can be connected to any other type of alarm system or telephone dialing
system that accepts a contact closure to trigger the alarm system. Control
Products sells the Deluxe FreezeAlarm which has an auxiliary alarm input
that accepts this connection. The 12" (30.48cm) wire can be extended up

to 1,000' (304.8m), although it is recommended you avoid running the wire
near or through electrical conduit or near large machinery, furnaces, or air
conditioners. When the miniAlarm detects an intruder and sounds the
siren, the alarm output will "close" and thus trigger your alarm system to be
activated.
FreezeAlarm to call your three pre-programmed telephone numbers and
alert you with a voice message of an intruder alert. See your alarm's
manual for more information on this connection.
Testing your miniAlarm
Test your miniAlarm by arming it and then walking in front of the alarm to
activate the alarm. Within four seconds of the initial detection "beep", the
siren should go off and the Alarm Output should "close". If using the Alarm
Output connection, make sure you verify the alarm system did you
expected to happen.
Problems and Solutions
Back
The Motion Sensor does not "beep" when the batteries are installed.
plate
Ensure that the batteries are installed the correct direction per the diagram
to the left and in the battery compartment. Make sure your batteries are
fresh, brand new batteries.
The Motion Sensor does not "arm".
Ensure the back plate is connected securely and holding the batteries in
correctly. Check to make sure the red LED light on the Remote Control
lights up when the "ARM" or "DISARM" buttons are pressed.
The red light on the Motion Sensor is on.
This indicates the batteries in the Motion Sensor are low. Replace with
new batteries. See "Battery Installation" section.
The miniAlarm is not activating my alarm system or Deluxe FreezeAlarm
through the Alarm Output wire.
Double check all the wires are connected properly together, including any
additional wire that you added to the original 12" length. Verify you haven't
extended the wire more than 1,000' (304m) or that the wire is too close to
some electrical machinery or wires that may be causing interference with
the connection.
My alarm system or FreezeAlarm is calling me with false intruder alarms.
This generally means you may have something triggering the miniAlarm
Motion Sensor in the home (bird, animal, or intruder) or that your wire that
connects the miniAlarm to the alarm system is extended too long or runs
nearby electrical devices that are causing interference and false contact
closures.
