Horizontal Clearance
If RS485 cables will be connected to the multi docks, the holes on mount
ing brackets must be at least 21 inches apart, as shown in Figure 1. This
will leave approximately 12 inches between multi docks to allow room to
connect or disconnect the cables. Since RS485 cables can be ordered in
many lengths, the maximum horizontal distance is limited only by the
cable length available to you.
Brackets may be installed much closer together (horizontally) when using
the lan interface connectors located on the bottom of the multi dock. In
this instance, bracket holes can be as close as 10 inches and still allow
room to hang or remove multi docks.
AC Power Source
If you are installing mounting brackets for the power supplies, make sure
that 115 V ac power (standard, grounded three prong wall outlets in the
U.S.) will be within reach of the ac power cord. The ac power cord is 6 ft.
7 inches long. Allow some slack to eliminate strain and possible discon
nection at either end.
Both ac to dc power supplies are capable of auto ranging an input voltage
from 90-240 V ac (47-63 Hz). The single output power supply requires a
maximum of 1.5 A input current, while the dual output power supply re
quires a maximum of approximately 3.0 A. Technically, then, one 20 am
pere AC circuit should support up to 48 terminals without overload.
DC Power Cable
The dc power cable from the power supply to the multi dock is 6 feet in
length. Power connectors are near the center, underneath the multi dock.
Make sure the dc power cables can reach both multidocks before fastening
the power supply mounting bracket to the wall.
Final Connections
Multidock
Figure 3 identifies the multidock connectors and their locations. D sub
miniature connectors are used for RS485 communication, while snap in
telephone type connectors are used for LAN (e.g., Ethernet) communica
tions. The power cable has a round, keyed, three prong connector with a
screw on collar.
