ExAO method
Angle Unit with analog output
Ref : 453 110
3. Connection
The angle unit is powered by a 230 V /12 V mains adaptor (Part no. 281 512, not supplied).
It is energised as soon as the adaptor is connected (1).
It processes signals coming from the cone pulley (Part no.: 453109, not supplied). The
connection is made with a 6-pin DIN plug (5).
This device is equipped with an analog output (6) which helps the acquisition and
processing of data from all interfaces and software compatible with this type of signals.
The characteristics of this analog output are:
- 5 V / + 5 V gives -45° /+ 45° or -180°/ + 180° according to the rated capacity selected,
Connection: safety banana sockets with 4 mm diameter.
4. Calibration
4.1 Heating time of the device
After powering on, the LED of the rated capacity – 45°/+45° comes on.
One must wait for about 1 min (the LED of the rated capacity flashes) during which the
analog output is blocked at 0 V.
Once this time has elapsed, it is possible to make measurements. However, the device
needs a heating time of about ½ hour to obtain a stable zero value. If measurements are
made during this period, it is recommended that the zero be calibrated before every
acquisition.
This information is also valid when the rated capacity changes from 180° to 45°.
To change the rated capacity, press the corresponding push-button (2).
For the -180°/+180° rated capacity there is no heating time. The measurements may be
started directly.
4.2 Equipment calibration
Zero adjustment (whatever the rated capacity) :
Attach a pendulum on the pulley and wait till there is no movement. Press the zero
adjustment push-button (3).
Angle adjustment (rated capacity – 45° / + 45°):
Move the pendulum by + 45° from its normal position (the screen printing on the pulley
indicates the value of the angles).
Press the 45° adjustment push-button (4).
The device is calibrated and measurements may now be taken.
4.3 Computerized calibration
The "Science Studio" collection software (Généris 5 and 5 plus) help customize the analog
output of the device in order to directly carry out the acquisitions of angles and not of
voltage. Refer to the instruction manual of the software package (Acquisition chapter).
