FOR FMA4SQ/125, FMA4SQ/163 & FMA4SQ/200 FLANGELESS ADAPTER
Aculux flangeless adapters are intended to be used only with Aculux 4" new construction housings and corresponding flangeless trims.
FMA4SQ/125 is for use with 7/8" thick to 1-1/4" thick ceilings.
FMA4SQ/163 is for use with 1-1/4" thick to 1-5/8" thick ceilings.
FMA4SQ/200 is for use with 1-5/8" thick to 2" thick ceilings.
For best results, use Aculux flangeless adapters with new, unpainted, paper-faced gypsum board only. Use of these adapters with other
ceiling materials is not recommended.
Note: For the best appearance, at minimum a Level 4 drywall finish for textured ceilings and a Level 5 drywall finish for flat ceilings is
recommended. In addition, use of a setting-type joint compound such as Sheetrock
and prevent the formation of hairline cracks over time.
Installation Steps
Step 1. Install Aculux new construction
housing and gypsum board ceiling per the
instruction sheet shipped with the recessed
housing. Confirm the ceiling cutout dimen-
sion is 5-1/2" x 5-1/2". The aperture must
be centered in this cutout to produce a
uniform 1/8" gap between drywall and
recessed housing.
Step 2. Remove and discard cardboard
paint shield from recessed housing. The
shield attached to the flangeless adapter
will protect the recessed housing until the
ceiling is finished.
Step 3. Fasten adapter to housing with sup-
plied screws as shown in figure 1. (Rotation
of adapter is not critical.)

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Step 4. Aculux flangeless adapters contain
a high-performance 3M™ adhesive
for permanent attachment to the ceiling.
The mating drywall surface must be clean
and free of dust for maximum adhesion.
Using a damp cloth or sponge, wipe the
drywall surface where the adapter will be
installed to remove any dirt or dust.
Step 5. With 3M™ adhesive release liner
in place, test fit the flangeless adapter to
the Aculux recessed housing and ceiling.
Note: The vertical tabs on the adapter fit
into the 1/8" gap between the drywall and
the recessed housing adapter. If necessary,
make adjustments to the drywall cutout to
ensure a flush fit.

Step 6. Peel off 3M™ adhesive release
liner, line-up parts (per step 5), and firmly
press flangeless adapter onto drywall. Hold
for at least 5 seconds for a bond to devel-
op. Do not remove the paint shield.

Step 7. The Aculux flangeless adapters
contain multiple features to promote maxi-
mum adhesion of the joint compound to the
part. With cardboard paint shield in place,
proceed in applying and feathering multiple
thin layers of a setting-type joint compound
(such as Sheetrock brand Durabond
®
according to the Level 4 or Level 5 drywall
finishing requirements specified. Smooth
and/or sand joint compound so the ¼" flat
surface around the inside perimeter of the
adapter is barely visible.
Step 8. Prime and paint the ceiling.
Step 9. Carefully remove the cardboard
paint shield from the flangeless adapter
by pulling straight down. A utility knife or
scraper may be used to remove any excess
paint or joint compound from the inside sur-
face of the flangeless adapter.
