INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
HONDA CIVIC 1996 - 1998
HARDWARE KIT
2 – Small Bumpons
3 – Large Bumpons
2 – Wellnuts
2 – ¼" Rubber Bonded Washers
2 – #10-32 x ¾" Machine Screws
2 – 3M Anti-abrasion Film Pads
2 – Black 'E' clips – See supplemental instruction "Installing Black 'E' Clips onto Deflector"
INSTALLATION
1. Be sure that hood is clean and dry inside and out. Open hood of the vehicle.
2. Attach the two small bumpons, one on each side of the grille, to the hood as shown in Figure #2.
3. Insert the deflector tabs in between the hood and the hood seal. Pull the edge of the hood seal back to determine the two mounting
holes in the hood, which align with the holes in the deflector tabs.
4. Ease the deflector back from the mounting holes and insert a wellnut into each.
5. Reposition the deflector with the tabs now aligned over the wellnuts and centered on the hood. While keeping pressure on the deflector
tabs to make sure the wellnut stays seated, assemble a washer (rubber side toward deflector) onto a screw and thread into each
wellnut. Snug the screw into the wellnut (do not over tighten). See Figure #1.
6. If necessary, flap the hood seal over the heads of the screws.
7. Install the anti-abrasion film pads directly under where the 'E' clips (already attached to the deflector) will mount on the hood. Wrap the
strips over the hood edge so that at least ½" wraps underneath.
8. Install the 'E' clips by gently pulling the deflector wings towards the leading edge of the hood until they slide over and clip onto the hood
edge.
9. Attach the three large bumpons on the hood as shown in Figure #2. One at the center and one behind each of the 'E' clips at the point
where the deflector begins to turn up. Attention: The bumpons must be installed on hood not deflector!!!! If the bumpons are
installed on the deflector, they will wear through the paint.
10. On some vehicles it may be necessary to adjust hood bumpers and/or latch for proper clearance.
Note: Do not pull on the deflector when opening or closing the hood.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Clean the deflector with a mild soap and water solution or plastic cleaner only. Do not use chemicals or solvents. Periodically
check to make sure the bumpons are in place and the deflector is secure. Avoid using automatic car washes. Do not pull on the
deflector when opening or closing the hood.
