What's MIDI?
In today's world, there are two main categories of instruments: acoustic instruments and digital
instruments. Let's consider an acoustic piano or a guitar as representative of acoustic instruments. They
are easy to understand. With the piano, every time you press a note, the hammer inside will hit some
strings and play the sound. With the guitar, you directly pluck a string and the note will sound. But how
does a digital instrument go about playing a note?
With electronic instruments, the sampled note will be previously recorded and stored in the tone generator
section. It will generate sound based on information received from the keyboard. So then what is the
information from the keyboard that becomes the basis for note production? For example, if you play a "C"
quarter note using the grand piano sound on the digital piano, the electronic instrument puts out
information from the keyboard such as "with what sound", "with which key", "about how strong", "when
was it pressed and released". Each piece of information is changed into a number value and sent to the
tone generator.
MIDI is an acronym that stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface, which allows electronic musical
instruments to communicate with each other, by sending and receiving compatible Note, Controller
Change, Program Change and various other types of MIDI data, or messages.

Record performance data using the piano Auto Accompaniment function on a external sequencer
(such as a personal computer). After recording, edit the data with the sequencer, then play it back
again the digital piano.
