Locating and securing this product
For maximum fire safety
Keep this product on the lowest secure floor in your home
or business. If a fire damages the flooring, there will be
less danger of injury to fire fighters below, or of damage
to the unit's contents.
To assure that the unit will perform properly in
case of fire, store it closed and locked, with the feet down.
The front plate where the model number appears, should
be facing out, not up.
Notice: Media Safes 1710 and 6720
Store the Sentry media chest or file in a cool, dry location.
Extended exposure to temperatures above 95ºF (35ºC)
activates the special insulation in your unit that protects
the contents in an actual fire. If activated prematurely,
this insulation won't be "fully charged," reducing its
fire protective capability. If stored in a cool place, the
insulation will recrystalize, regaining the maximum fire
protection required for sensitive computer media.
To lock and unlock
Two keys are packed with the unit.
• To lock, insert the key (with the lid closed). Turn the key
one-quarter turn to the right. Remove the key and store
it in a secure place. (Fig. A)
• To unlock, insert the key and turn it one-quarter turn to
the left. (Fig. B)

To open waterproof models which
have been submerged in water:
1. Remove the unit from water.
2. Dry the exterior of the safe with a paper towel,
taking care to remove water droplets from around
the opening.
3. Remove any excess water from in between the lid
and the base.
4. Open the lid slowly; there may be a few droplets of
water on the gasket. If so, dry with towel.
Latch and lock operation for
waterproof chests and files
(Models H2100, H2300, F2300,
H3100, H3300, F3300)
To unlock and open:
1. Insert key in lock and turn counterclockwise.
2. While pressing down on lid with one hand, squeeze
latch button with the other hand to open safe. (Fig. C)
To use latch feature:
1. Close and press down on lid to engage latch. (Fig. D)
2. Safe can now be transported without locking it.
To close and lock:
1. Close and press down on lid to engage latch.
2. Insert key in lock and turn clockwise to lock safe.

Keys could potentially be locked inside unit.
To avoid this, do not open and place keys
inside unit before relocking!

Protect delicate items!
The inside of the unit is subject to humidity. If you are
storing stamps or other delicate items which may be
affected by moisture, keep them in an airtight container.
No computer disks, audio-visual
media or photo negatives.
Standard Fire-safe chests and files are not intended to
protect computer diskettes, cartridges and tapes, audio
or video cassettes. For fire-resistant storage of these
materials, ask your retailer for the Sentry Fire-Safe
media chest or file (Models 1710, 6720).
Sorry, no pearls.
Pearls may become discolored from exposure to heat.
