2. Procedure • Fit the mandrel bending tester
with the appropriate mandrel (3).
(Mandrels 20 mm to 32 mm must
be slipped onto mandrel 16 mm
before use.)
• Lower the handle (1) into position
A.
• Insert the test panel (2), coated
side down, between the mandrel
(3) and the bending piece (4) and
fi x it with the clamping jaws (5).
• Fasten the clamping jaws using
the thumb nuts.
• Using the knurled screw (6), pull
the test panel until it touches the
mandrel.
• Press the bending piece against
the test panel and the mandrel by
turning the handle.
• Bend the test panel over the
mandrel by lifting the handle
through approx. 180° from
position A to position B.
Note:
The bending operation shall be
carried out evenly and without
jerking over a period of 1 - 2
seconds.
• Starting with the largest bending
radius, the test is continued until
reaching the bending radius at
which the fi lm shows cracks or
becomes detached.
• The panel is evaluated with the
unaided eye or, by agreement,
with a lens of 8-10fold magnifi ca-
tion.
• Record the diameter of the fi rst
mandrel at which the fi lm shows
cracks or becomes detached.
