SERVO ROTARY TOOL INSTRUCTIONAL MANUAL
6,000 RPM, 5 HP and 13,300 RPM, 3 HP

Retain these instructions for future reference.
These robotic servo tools (also called Spindle Motors or Servo Tool Changers) are intended for use in industrial locations, and used only by skilled, trained professionals in accordance with the
instructions in this manual. These Servo Motors are designed to be used with the appropriate size abrasive media for grinding and finishing metals and other materials. They should only be used
for such applications and within their marked capacity and ratings of the media and accessories used. Only accessories specifically recommended by 3M should be used with these Servo Motors.
Use in any other manner or with other accessories could lead to unsafe operating conditions.
Do not operate Servo Motors in water or in an excessively wet application.
Do not use disc pads that have a Max. RPM less than the Servo Motor Max. RPM rating.
Servo Motors shall be inspected periodically to verify that ratings, markings, and labels are legible. Contact 3M Company to obtain replacement labels.

  • Page 2 • The life of the motor is directly related to the operational temperature, so proper cooling is critical. • 3M recommends the use of flexible polyurethane tubing as opposed to nylon tubing. This is because nylon tubing tends to crimp shut when it is bent.
  • Page 3 General Overview using the Parallel Mounting Kit Model 06533. The 3M Model 06531 13300 RPM, 3 HP and 3M Model 06532 6000 RPM, 5 HP Servo Rotary Tool share many common components. The BT30 Toolholder is a standard machine tool style and may be purchased from 3M (Part Number 06534, 5/8-11 X .48IN BT30 TOOLHOLDER HTC): The Customer can also make their own BT30 Toolholder to handle special media (See Figure 5 for Toolholder dimensions).
