Important information for use as a substrate heater:
The terrarium may never be placed directly on the JBL TerraTemp heating mats. This can lead to
heat accumulation and may even cause the bottom pane to break. The heating mats come with
spacers which ensure sufficient space between the bottom of the terrarium and the heating mat.
There should also be a space of approx. 3 – 4 cm between the terrarium and any surrounding
walls. This ensures even heat transmission and prevents heat build-up.
The substrate used must also enable optimum heat transfer into the terrarium. Dense materials
with few air spaces are generally suitable. This includes sand and sand-like materials such
as JBL TerraSand and JBL TerraBasis. Wood shavings, bark substrates, etc. such as JBL
TerraBark, JBL TerraWood and JBL TerraCoco have good heat insulation properties and are
therefore unsuitable.
Important safety instructions:
• Make sure that the operating voltage indicated on the name-plate agrees with the mains
voltage.
• For indoor use only!
• Do not cut out, punch, drill or kink the heating element!
• Do not use if there are cracks in the plastic film or if it is otherwise damaged!
• Do not use if the lead is damaged!
• The lead cannot be replaced. If it is damaged, the appliance must be disposed of.
• The heating appliance is unusable if it no longer emits heat.
• The heating element cannot be repaired. If damaged, it must be disposed of.
• The heating appliance may not be used for any purpose other than those specified in these
instructions.
• The heating mat may not be used without spacers.
• The power cable of the appliance should form a "drip loop" to prevent water running along
the cable into the power socket.
• If they are supervised, the appliance may be used by children over the age of 8 and
by persons with a physical, sensory or mental impairment, as well as by inexperienced
persons. They should have received an introduction to how to use the appliance for this
purpose and be aware of the risks of use. The appliance is not a toy. Children should not
clean the appliance or do maintenance or repair work on it unless they are over the age of
8 and are being supervised.
• When using the mat as a substrate heater, make sure that the substrate is suitable.
