Electrical connection

The electrical connection may only be carried out by qualified personnel. The connection is made in a
de-energized state, taking into consideration DIN VDE 0100 "Erection of low voltage installations" or the
respective local regulations (e.g. based on IEC 60364).
The corresponding terminal assignment can be found in the data sheet under the connection diagram of
the respective product (product group number) and/or the enclosed drawing.
The operator is responsible for the design of the corresponding connecting cable.
The cables installed on the product are designed for fixed installation.
The existing maximum application limits (current, voltage, power) and also the ambient temperature
must be observed according to the particular data sheet.
To prevent destruction of the reed contacts in the event of an external short-circuit in the load circuit, the
load circuit must be fused to the maximum permissible reed contact current (see Technical Data).
NOTE!
If dangerously active voltages are switched (float switches), please note that an isolating device (e.g.
power switch) has to be available for the electrical connection to follow (in accordance with
DIN EN 61010-1). This device must be suitably arranged, easily accessible for the user, and marked as
belonging to the device.
Unless otherwise specified, the product must be grounded through the process connection or the hous-
ing. Depending on the selected electrical connection on the product, the counterpiece or the cable pas-
sage must be sealed in order to achieve the protection type. A faulty connection (for example high short-
circuit current via the contact) may destroy the reed contact and lead to malfunctions resulting in injury
to persons or damage to systems.
NOTE!
In the case of float switches, the external fuse must be provided by the operator, e.g. in the control cab-
inet. The fuse must be selected so that the tripping current corresponds to the switching current of the
float switch and the optional temperature switch. The switching current can be seen on the product and/
or the corresponding data sheet.
WARNING!
Personal injury by explosion!
For explosion-protected versions in flameproof enclosure, Ex d, an external fuse must be provided by
the operator, e.g. in the cabinet. For float level switches, the fuse must be selected so that the trip current
corresponds to the switching current of the float level switch and the optional temperature switch. For
float level transmitters, a fine-wire fuse of 32 mA must be used. For optional temperature sensors of a
float level switch or float level transmitter, a fine-wire fuse of 32 mA must be used.
WARNING!
Personal injury by explosion!
For explosion-protected versions with dust deposits, an equipotential bonding of the metal parts of the
enclosure must be ensured over the entire circuit (see IEC 60079-0.
For level transmitters, a stabilized power supply unit (nominal voltage DC 24 V, SELV-electrical circuit)
or intrinsically safe supply isolator must be used in potentially explosive applications.
The voltage supply is switched on. The container or tank is filled and the switching points or the output
signal are checked for the intended function. Here, it must be checked that no unplanned system status-
es occur.
