WHAT TO DO IN CASE OF ALARM?
• Immediately leave the building according to your evacuation plan. Every second counts, do not waste time by
getting dressed or taking valuable objects with you.
• Never open a door without touching its surface. When the door is hot or when you can see smoke coming from
under it, do not open it. Take the alternative route instead. If the door is cool, put your shoulder against it and
open the door slightly. Prepare to close the door shut in case of penetrating smoke or heat.
• Keep low in smoky air. Breathe through a cloth, wet if possible.
6. False alarm
The smoke alarm is designed to minimise false alarm. Cigarette smoke will normally not trigger the detector, except
when the smoke is directly blown in the direction of the detector. Combustion particles, also formed when cooking,
could trigger the alarm especially when it is close to cooking devices. A large amount of combustion particles and
smoke are usually formed when cooking. If the system indicates an alarm, first check whether there actually is a fire
source. If there is no fire, check the possibilities for triggering the fire alarm. If there is any question as to the
cause of an alarm, it should be assumed that the alarm is due to an actual fire and the premises should be
evacuated immediately.
7. Use, testing and maintenance
USE: The detector is functional as soon as a battery is inserted. When combustion particles are detected in the air, a
loud alarm will sound. The alarm will stop as soon as the air is clean.
TEST: Push the test button at least 4 seconds until the alarm sounds. A self test program is activated: the alarm
sounds when the circuit, siren and battery are functional. It is advisable to test the system every week to ensure
correct operation. When the alarm does not sound, it is probable that the battery is defective. Try a new one.
Maintenance: The alarm is almost maintenance-free. In dusty environments however, it is advisable to use the
vacuum cleaner to clean the outer part of the detector.
CHANGING THE BATTERIES
Normally, a carbon zinc 9VDC
"low-bat" indicator and an audible tweeting. This lasts for 30-40 sec. for 30 days. Change the battery when you hear
this. Only use 9V batteries (available in most drug stores, hardware stores and electro shops).
Carbon-zinc type: Eveready #216; Gold Peak #1604P (UL); Gold Peak #1604S; Gold Peak #1604G; Premisafe
Alkaline type: Eveready Energizer #522; Gold Peak #1604A; Vinnic AM9V; Duracell #MN1604.
Lithium Type: Ultralife #U9VL
The smoke detector should be tested with the test button whenever the battery is replaced. Please contact your
dealer when the detector fails to operate correctly.
