MAINTENANCE
 Check both the engine oil level and the fuel tank level;
refill as needed.
 Inspect the work area for hazards.
 If there is excessive noise or vibration, stop the unit
immediately.
CLEANING THE AIR FILTER
See Figure 22.
A dirty air filter will cause starting difficulty, loss of
performance, and shorten the life span of the engine. Check
the air filter monthly. For best performance, replace the air
filter at least once a year.
 Push the tab on the air filter cover to open, then remove
the air filter cover.
 Lift the edge of the air filter carefully and pull it out.
 Wash the air filter with warm, soapy water.
 Rinse and squeeze to dry.
 Put small amount of motor oil (SAE 30 or SAE 10W30) on
the filter sponge. Squeeze out the excess oil then reinstall
the air filter.
NOTE: Make sure the filter is seated properly inside the
cover. Installing the filter incorrectly will allow dirt to enter
the engine, causing rapid engine wear.
 Reinstall the air filter cover.
CHANGING THE ENGINE OIL
See Figure 23.
 Place a container under the pressure washer.
 Remove the oil drain plug and drain the old oil.
NOTE: Drain the oil while the engine is still warm but not
hot. Warm oil will drain quickly and more completely.
 Replace the oil drain plug.
 Replace the oil with new, clean oil. This engine will hold
20 oz. or 0.6 liters of oil (SAE 30 or SAE 10W30).
NOTE: Consult hazardous waste management guidelines in
your area for the proper way to dispose of used oil.
CHANGING THE PUMP OIL
See Figure 24.
NOTE: The pump was filled with oil at the factory.
Fill the crankcase with special Cat Pumps oil per pump
specifications listed below. Do not run pump without oil
in crankcase. Change initial fill after 50 hours of run time.
Thereafter, change oil every 3 months or 500 hour intervals.
To check oil:
 Place unit on a flat, level surface.
 The sight glass is located above the drain plug. There is
a red dot in the center of the glass.
 An oil level at the top of the red dot indicates oil is at
maximum level.
 An oil level at or below the bottom of the red dot indicates
oil is below desired level, and oil should be added.
To change oil:
 Place a container under the pressure washer.
 Loosen the pump oil cap. Remove the oil drain plug and
drain the old oil.
NOTE: Drain the oil while the pump is still warm but not
hot. Warm oil will drain quickly and more completely.
 Replace the oil drain plug. Tighten securely.
 Remove the pump oil cap.
 Fill with 8.5 oz. (251 ml) of Cat Pumps Oil.
Type: ISO 68 Premium Grade High Pressure Pump Oil
Model AP31045 or Cat Pumps Part Number: 6201
 Replace pump oil cap and tighten securely.
NOTE: Consult hazardous waste management guidelines in
your area for the proper way to dispose of used oil.
CHECKING A FOULED SPARK PLUG
See Figure 25.
 Clean carbon deposits off the spark plug electrode using
a plug cleaner or wire brush.
 Check electrode gap. The gap should be 0.024 in. - 0.028 in.
(.6 mm - .7 mm. ). Adjust the gap, if necessary, by care-
fully bending the side electrode.
Replacement spark plug: NGK BR-6HS, Champion
RL86C, or equivalent

NOZZLE MAINTENANCE

See Figure 26.
Excessive pump pressure (a pulsing sensation felt while
squeezing the trigger) may be the result of a clogged or
dirty nozzle.
 Turn off the pressure washer and shut off the water
supply. Pull trigger to release water pressure.
 Remove the nozzle from the spray wand.
NOTE: Never point the spray wand at your face.
 Using a straightened paper clip or nozzle cleaning tool
(not provided), free any foreign materials clogging or
restricting the nozzle.
 Using a garden hose, flush debris out of nozzle by back
flushing (running the water through the nozzle backwards
or from the outside to the inside).
 Reconnect the nozzle to the spray wand.
 Turn on the water supply and start the engine.
LONG-TERM STORAGE OF THE PRESSURE
WASHER
See Figures 27 - 28.
Store the pressure washer with the gas tank empty by running
the pressure washer until the gas runs out. Allow 30 minutes
of "cool down" time before storing the machine. Store in a
dry, covered area where the weather can't damage it.
