Hallways with a width > 3 m:
Hallways (L/U-shaped) with a width greater than 3 m are
to be visualised extended at the arms of the angle and
viewed as individual rooms. The resulting 'rooms' are to be
fitted with smoke alarms accordingly.

The requirements apply not only for hallways but also for
rooms with these geometries (for example, corner room).
4.3.5 Rooms with slanted ceilings
• For peaked roofs with an angle >20°, the smoke alarm
should be installed at a distance of at least 0.5 m and no
more than 1 m from the gable peak; see Figure 5a.

• Note the following for rooms with only a partially slanted
ceiling: If the horizontal ceiling is less than 1 m wide, the
smoke alarm should be fitted on the slanted ceiling in
accordance with Figure 5b.

alarm should be fitted in its centre.

• Roofs with angles of ≤ 20° can be handled the same as
horizontal ceilings (see 4.3.3 Standard rooms).
4.3.6 Raised horizontal surfaces and galleries
If a room is subdivided horizontally, for example, through
a raised horizontal surface or gallery, an additional smoke
alarm is required beneath if:
• both the area beneath the subdivision (raised horizontal
surface, gallery, etc.) is greater than 16 m²
• and the length and width each exceed 2 m.
4.3.7 Rooms with joists/beams
For rooms with beams or other joists, the following require-
ments must be observed depending on dimension:
