Installation
INSTALLING THE MOUNTING CASING AND FAN
STEP 1
When selecting a fan mounting location, the following criteria should be
considered: a) type of application; b) service accessibility; and c) mount-
ing to minimize noise generated by fan operation.
a) Intermittent ventilation - i.e. bathroom exhaust, kitchen area
exhaust; continuous ventilation for indoor air quality.
Important Notice: When using the fan in a continuous system, ade-
quate makeup air should be provided in order to prevent backdraft-
ing of combustion appliances.
b) Fan location should allow sufficient access for service.
c) Mounting the fan as far as possible from the exhaust point will
minimize fan operating noise from being transmitted back through
the duct work. If the fan is to be used as a booster for moving the
air between two rooms, a central point along the duct may be opti-
mal. Insulated type duct work (recommended for all bathroom
exhaust applications) will also result in quieter operation.
STEP 2
To fasten the mounting casing to the ceiling, use either threaded rod or
wires to suspend the unit from the ceiling. You may also install the unit
by fastening it to a frame using either wood or sheet-metal screws
depending on the surface to which you chose to attach the unit. The
frame should be designed to eliminate vibration.
STEP 3
Connect duct work to inlet and outlet of fan using FC clamps or duct
tape. When using insulated duct, it is recommended that the inner vinyl
core be clamped or taped to the inlet and outlet collar and that the
vapor barrier surrounding the insulation be duct taped to the side of the
unit.
INSTALLING THE SUPPLY/EXHAUST GRILL
STEP 1
Select the grill mounting point within the area to be ventilated. To ease
installation, locations of framing beams within the walls or joists sup-
porting the ceiling should be considered.
STEP 2
Place the mounting collar in the selected location and trace a circle onto
the surface. From the interior side of the room, cut through the surface.
Please note: in order to assure a smoother finish when mounting
through a sheetrock or tile type ceiling, it is recommended that a razor
knife be used to make the cut.
STEP 3
From within the attic or crawl space, place the ducting into the hole until
the edge of the duct is flush with the interior wall or ceiling surface.
Attach collar to the duct work and clamp or tape into place, if neces-
sary. If grills are equipped with mounting screws, install them before
installing the duct work.
STEP 4
Insert the grill.

ÉTAPE 1
Il faut tenir compte des critères suivants lorsqu'on choisit un endroit
pour installer le ventilateur : a) le type d'utilisation, b) l'accessibilité pour
effectuer l'entretien et c) la minimisation du bruit produit par le ventilateur.
a) Ventilation intermittente, p. ex., dans une salle de bains ou la cuisine;
ventilation continue pour assurer la qualité de l'air intérieur.
Avis important : Lorsqu'on utilise le ventilateur dans un système continu,
il faut fournir de l'air d'appoint adéquat afin de prévenir les explosions de
fumée dans les appareils à combustion.
b) L'emplacement du ventilateur doit permettre un accès suffisant pour
effectuer l'entretien.
c) L'installation du ventilateur aussi loin que possible du point d'évacuation
minimisera le bruit de fonctionnement transmis par les conduits. Si le ven-
tilateur sera utilisé comme appareil d'appoint pour déplacer de l'air entre
deux pièces, un point central le long du conduit pourrait s'avérer optimal.
Les conduits isolés (recommandés pour évacuer l'air dans les salles de
bains) réduiront également le bruit de fonctionnement.
ÉTAPE 2
Pour fixer le boîtier au plafond, utilisez soit une tige filetée ou des fils
pour suspendre l'appareil au plafond. On peut également installer
l'appareil en le fixant à un cadre à l'aide de vis à bois ou à tôle, selon la
surface en question. Le cadre doit être conçu pour éliminer les vibrations.
ÉTAPE 3
Reliez le conduit à l'entrée et à la sortie du ventilateur à l'aide de colliers
de fixation ou de ruban à conduits. Lorsqu'on utilise un conduit isolé, il est
recommandé de fixer l'âme intérieure en vinyle à la collerette d'entrée et
de sortie à l'aide d'un collier de fixation ou de ruban adhésif et de fixer la
gaine pare-vapeur entourant l'isolant au côté de l'appareil à l'aide de ruban
à conduits.
INSTALLATION DE LA GRILLE D'ALIMENTATION/ÉVACUATION
ÉTAPE 1
Choisissez le point de fixation de la grille dans l'aire à ventiler. Pour facili-
ter l'installation, tenez compte de l'emplacement des charpentes à
l'intérieur des murs ou des solives soutenant le plafond.
ÉTAPE 2
Placez le collier de fixation à l'endroit choisi et dessinez un cercle sur la
surface. Découpez la surface à partir de l'intérieur de la pièce. Veuillez
noter : afin d'assurer un fini plus net lors de la fixation dans une cloison
sèche ou un plafond suspendu, il est recommandé d'utiliser un couteau
de précision pour effectuer la coupe.
ÉTAPE 3
Dans le grenier ou le vide sanitaire, placez-le conduit dans l'ouverture
de façon à ce que le bord soit de niveau avec la surface intérieure du
mur ou du plafond. Fixez la collerette au conduit à l'aide d'un collier de
fixation ou de ruban à conduits, au besoin. Si les grilles sont dotées de
vis de fixation, posez-les avant d'installer le conduit.
ÉTAPE 4
Insérez la grille.
