Installation of ELEPHANT Energizer
Before you start the installation of the energizer
it is important that you study this installation
guide carefully. Correct installation is essential
if you want to achieve optimal functionality of
your Energizer.
Positioning of the Heliopan fence
To achieve the best result, the solar panel
should be facing towards the south, and
Heliopan positioned so that it does not fall in
the shade, e.g. from trees, during the day. You
should also make sure that no other vegetation
grows up around the solar panel.

Installing the battery

Check that the ON/OFF button is turned off.
Force the handle of the fencer towards the
terminals. In this position the top section can
be removed.
Connect red battery wire to "+"
Connect black battery wire to "-"
Installing the earth rod
Assemble the 2-part earth rod and the black
wire. Press the earth rod into the ground. Place
the Energizer above. Connect the black wire to
the earth terminals on the energizer.
Fencing Wire Connection
Connect the red wire between the fence termi-
nals on the energizer and the fence wire.
Checking the fence
Once you have completed the connection to
the fence, you must check that the instal-
lation is in working order. As shown in the
diagram, you create a good, temporary
short circuit from the fence down to the
earth approx. 100 m from the energizer.
Connect the energizer and check whether
the wire that runs from the earth terminal on
the energizer to the earth rod generates an
electrical shock. If a shock is detected, the
earth connection is insufficient and you must
knock in another earth rod. Continue with
this until the wire from the earth terminal on
the energizer no longer generates a shock.
Remember to remove the temporary earth
connection when you have finished.
DIY testing of your energizer
Detach the earth connection and the wire to
the fence from the terminals.
Hold a screwdriver on the earth terminal at
a distance of 2-4 mm from the terminal. If
the energizer is working as normal, a spark
will jump between the two terminals.
If you are in any doubt that you have a
sound enclosure, walk along the fence with
an old transistor radio. When you pass a
poor insulator, poor leakage to ground or
other poor conditions, radio distortion will
occur. The closer you come to the site, the
more distortion you will hear on the radio.
Possible faults
Poor earth connection
See how to create a perfect earth connec-
tion under "Checking the fence".
Poor wire joints
Poor insulators, especially on iron poles.
Spark flashover on a fence pole can often
be heard clearly.
If the connection to earth, wire joints and in-
sulators is in working order, you can assume
that the fence is generating an even current
all around the enclosure.
Guarantee
If your energizer is not working properly, you
must dismantle it and return it to where you
bought it. Remember to bring your receipt.
Energizers that are less than 3 years old are
repaired free of charge, on the condition that
the damage has not been caused by unaut-
horised intervention or by the device having
been connected to an incorrect voltage. The
guarantee does not cover misuse, neglect
or lightening damage. There is no guarantee
or compensation for indirect damage.
