Crusader Mk. III
Der Crusader Ill war einer der Standardpanzer der britis-
ppe und übenNiegend auf dem afrikanis-
chen Kriegsschauplatzeingesetzt. 1mZeitraum von Mai
bis Juli 1942 wurden 144 Fahrzeuge gebaut. Dank seines
Christie-Laufwerkes
degängig, die Panzerungbetrug bis zu 51 mm.
1m Afrikafeldzug war der Crusader Ill wegen seiner
Geschwindigkeit bei der Truppe beliebt, jedoch war die
Panzerungzu gering und die Bewaffnung nicht ausreich-
end. Nach dem Ende der Kämpfe in Nordafrika wurde
der Crusader Ill außer Dienst gestellt.
Die Bewaffnung bestand aus einer 6 Pounder-Kanone
— (57 mm) und einem
Maschinengewehr. Die Besatzung des Crusader Ill
bestand aus drei Mann, wobei der Kommandant gleich-
zeitig als Ladeschütze fungierte.
Der Crusader Ill wurde von einem V-12- Zylinder Nuffield
Liberty-Motor mit 340 PS Leistung angetrieben
erreichte, béi einem Gefechtsgewicht von ca. 20040 kg,
eine Geschwindigkeitvon biszu 44 km/h auf der Strasse.

Crusader Mk.
The Crusader Ill was one of the standard tanks used by —
the British tank regiments, seeing operational use main-
ly in the African theatre of war. 144 tanks of this type
were built during May and June 1942. Owing to its
Christie-type suspension system, the vehicle featured
easy manoeuvrability; its armour was up to 51 mm thick.
In the African campaign, its speed made the Crusader Ill
popular with the troops but armour and armament
were considered
fighting in Northern Africa, the Crusader Ill was with-
drawn from service.
Armed with a 6-pounder main gun (57 mm) and a coax-
ial 7,92 mm Besa machine gun, it had a crew of three

with the tank commander also acting as loader. The
Crusader Ill was powered by a V 12-cylinder Nuffield
Liberty engine rated at 340 hp and, with a combat —
weight of approx. 20.040 kg, produced a speed of up to —
