IV. REMOVE AND REPLACE FUEL PUMP
NOTE: The new pump is physically different than the pump being replaced. The filter and
grommets are also different. The replacement pump is designed to meet and exceed all
specifications of the original pump.
A) Disassembly Procedure
1. Disconnect the fuel pump electrical
plug from the bottom side of the
bulkhead connector on the inside of
the tank unit. Depress the lock release
and slide the connector down off of
the connector (See Fig. 1).
2. Disconnect fuel pump outlet hose on
the bottom of the tank unit flange (See
Fig. 1).
Be sure to mark the upper & lower parts of the
tank unit before proceeding with this procedure
to ensure proper orientation for reassembly.
3. Compress the bottom sensing spring
toward the top of the tank unit. This
will allow room to remove the flange
assembly. Carefully pry the two (2)
flange slide tracks over the bottom
sensing stops and slide the flange
assembly off of the lower portion of
the tank unit (See Fig. 1).
4. Remove the four (4) retainer screws
from the lower portion of the tank unit
(See Fig. 1).
5. Remove two (2) electrical wires from the fuel pump.
6. Slide the old pump, hose, and pump retainer & grommet out of the tank unit.
7. Remove the inner filter from the tank unit by popping it up out of its pocket in the
bottom of the tank unit.
8. Remove the outer filter from the bottom of the tank unit by bending the two (2) metal
locking tabs off of the plastic lock fingers. Carefully pry the filter off of the tank unit.
9. Remove the float assembly from the bottom of the tank unit by gently pulling the float
check valve out of the hole in the bottom of the tank unit. Remove the float check valve
from the float and discard it. Be sure to save the float, as you will need to reuse it.
B) Reassembly Procedure
1. Be sure that the tank unit is clean and free of debris before proceeding with the
reassembly procedure. Install a crimp style clamp onto the flexible supply hose and
install the hose onto the new fuel pump. Crimp the clamp with the appropriate tool.
2. Install a crimp style clamp onto the other end of the supply tube. Insert the supplied
fuel quick connect fitting into the hose and crimp with the appropriate tool.
3. Install the upper fuel grommet onto the outlet side of the fuel pump.
4. Install the new inner filter check valve into the inner filter and install this assembly into
the tank unit.
5. Install the filter adapter into the inner filter.
6. Install the new fuel pump assembly into the tank unit. Be sure the jet tube on the pump
is aligned with the slot on the filter adapter.
7. Install the fuel pump retainer into the tank unit and reinstall the retainer screws. Be sure to
push the retainer below the screws as they are threaded through the sides of the tank unit.
